I was surprised to read that Kizer called his own plays at Notre Dame. If he has a strong arm, he might be able to be something good. When Packers played Browns, I noticed he didn't hesitate to make a decision. I liked that and he was just a rookie. Now he needs to learn better decisions and how to read blitz and he has a chance. What do you think? Or do you feel he's trash simply cuz he was a Browns player and played bad?

Packers coach Mike McCarthy has high praise for the backup quarterback Green Bay acquired this offseason, DeShone Kizer.

McCarthy said Kizer compares to the elite prospects in this year’s draft, Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen and Josh Rosen.

“He has starter ability in this league. Clearly,” McCarthy said. “In my opinion, if he was in that class this year, he would have been part of the first five quarterbacks, the first-round guys. He has exceptional arm talent.”

That doesn’t make a lot of sense: Last year Kizer went in the latter part of the second round, No. 52 overall. Kizer did not have a good rookie year, which is why the Browns sent him to Green Bay. So if Kizer wasn’t a first-round pick a year ago, and didn’t have a good year, why would he be a first-round pick this year?

Schools like Notre Dame tend to get some of the nations best High School players. How well they perform often depends upon their Coaches, their fellow players, and the level of competition.

Kizer performed well enough to impress an NFL team. However not unlike at the College level, Kizer's success relied heavily upon his Coaches and his fellow players. The Browns 0 - 16 record last season speaks to Kizer's less than impressive stay in Cleveland.

Now that Kizer is a Packer, he deserves a fair chance to compete for the #2 QB position. In addition, Hundley saw his first series of regular season games and deserves the same consideration that many other rookie QBs have been given. After all many QBs have survived their first few games, only to go on to greater success in their 2nd or even 3rd seasons.

Lets give them both a fair chance before we start throwing mud. [cool]

PFT argument is stupid. If Kizer was in this years draft he wouldn't have played badly for the browns last year. He was a 2nd round pick it's really not much of a stretch to think he makes it into the 1st round following a solid year playing for ND last season.

This guy is a long shot to even be a good backup quarterback. Is it possible he grows into starting material? Sure. It's possible for every player in the NFL. But in Kizer's case, it's highly unlikely, imo.

Kizer was thrown to the wolves on a lousy team. How can a guy be judged properly under those circumstances ?
Hundley had an opportunity to show he was capable of at least being decent as a backup, and blew it.
So I say give Kizer a chance to show what he has before labeling him as lousy.
Hopefully we won’t even need a backup except to take over when we have a huge lead!

Many QBs have struggled in their 1st season as Starters. Names like Manning and Luck and others come to mind. Hundley too did not have All Pro numbers in his debut as a starter, but week to week as he filled in for Rodgers, I saw steady improvement as game plans were crafted more in line with Hundley's strengths rather than Rodgers'.

Both Kizer and Hundley have had their baptisms as NFL starters. Hundley will start off this year with a better handle on GB's system as Kizer will have much to learn. That said, I believe that both QBs will compete in a spirited competition to be GB's #2 QB. [smile]

Obviously, all coaches fluff; but McCarthy said Kizer is with Darnold, Rosen and Mayfield. He effectively said Kizer is a 2018 top 1 to top 10 pick. This fluff is so over the top its insane; it's not about Kizer at all, it's about prepping fans for Randall to do a Hyde/Hayward resurgence. Remember Gutekunst said he’s getting the same player trading from #14 to #27 and was all dumbass chatty before, during and after the draft? This is not transparency; fans are not being informed; fans are being played.

This babble is typical big corporate BS propaganda and misinformation. It’s all about enhancing the “Brand.” Under the pretense of being transparent and informative; they’re actually working to shape perception.

1265 appointed its new Minster of Propaganda [Jason Wahlers-Goebbels] in January. Here’s the value he said he’d personally add to 1265's way and thinking [Murphy and the Board obviously soaked this stuff up-they gave him the job]:

"☑ Align messaging, strategy, and operations, lead PR teams, and coach leaders in press relations.

☑ Craft messaging for global brands, positioning personalities and managing media desire.

☑ Promote brands by developing relationships, respectfully challenging media, and voicing objections."

This creepy stuff is how big Pharma shapes Americans to vote/opine against their own interest in terms of national healthcare. How big Oil shapes Americans to vote/opine against their own interest in terms of denying climate change, killing our planet and rejecting the most efficient forms of energy. How big AG shapes Americans to vote/opine against their own interest in terms of food safety and controlling it long term availability…and so forth.
