Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

DeCosta would be my top choice. Followed by Alonzo Highsmith. Has Murphy submitted a request to the Browns?

The Packers have three internal candidates: Russ Ball, Brian Gutekunst and Eliot Wolf. Although Ball, their chief contract negotiator, is viewed as a leading candidate, a source said Gutekunst and Wolf both were impressive in their interviews, with Gutekunst holding a slight edge over the younger Wolf. A source said McCarthy is not opposed to working with any of the internal candidates, despite reports that he would try to leave if Ball got the job.

The Packers also plan to interview former Bills GM Doug Whaley

Eliot Wolf is the best internal candidate, but I get the feeling Mark Murphy wants to break away from the Bob Harlan/Ron Wolf Era in Green Bay, and put his own stamp on the franchise. Russ Ball would be an unorthodox hire (CEO instead of scout), and it just seems like Murphy is viewing this from a business standpoint and not a football standpoint. My guess is we are witnessing a house cleaning of large proportions. Maybe Mike McCarthy decides to stay, but I could see him being a lame duck coach ala Mike Sherman in 2005.

I hope it's true that Aaron isn't okay with Russ Ball. We'd then have conflicting reports on MM's willingness to work with Russ and the franchise not happy about it.
