49ers sign WR Max McCaffrey from Packers’ practice squad
McCaffrey recorded a team-high eight receptions during the 2017 preseason, and finished second on the team in receiving yards with 85. He also returned four punts for 32 yards.
However, despite that performance, McCaffrey was the victim of a numbers game at wide receiver and did not make the final cut-down to 53 at the end of training camp. Instead, he signed with the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad, spending a week on the Bayou before the Jacksonville Jaguars signed him to their active roster. After suiting up for five games (catching one pass for four yards), he was released in late October, and the Packers re-signed him to the practice squad shortly thereafter.
