Packers have 3 weeks to activate Goodson off PUP. The Green Bay Packers ' secondary could get a boost in the coming weeks with cornerback Demetri Goodson practicing Wednesday for the first time since the start of the season. The team can take up to three weeks before activating him from the physically unable to perform list.
Goodson has missed the entire season thus far while working back from blowing out his knee in November 2016. That injury involved multiple ligament tears, which partially explains the cornerback's longer recovery timetable. Goodson opened the year on the Packers' PUP list and remained there until this week.
With the practice window now open for Goodson, the Packers have a three-week window to evaluate Goodson's recovery and determine whether to find a spot for him on their 53-man roster. If the team decides against activating him, it can either release him or place him on injured reserve.
Injuries have taken a toll on Green Bay's defensive backfield, with Morgan Burnett missing multiple games with groin trouble and corners Davon House and Kevin King losing time with ailments of their own. Goodson wouldn't resolve issues at the top of the depth chart, but he offers reliable depth behind the starters and provides steady production on special teams.
