The hit should have been flagged for roughing for driving Rodgers into the ground new I don’t consider it dirty just against the rules.

I just assumed everyone knew the hit was 100% ILLEGAL. I define dirty as an intentional play that has no purpose in the game; but to injure. Barr had him wrapped up without the ball and had no reason to anything else, except to collect a bounty; it was also 100% dirty!

I’m okay with the initial hit; it’s too much to ask Barr to stop short in that situation. And I’m okay with ref’s missing this one because in real time the hit may not have looked illegal. But, there’s gonna be some crap if Barr don’t at least get fined.

He clearly violated “(b)” and “(g)” establishes his being outside the pocket doesn’t change the violation in “(b).”

Here’s the rule [Rule 12, section 2 art 9]:

(a) “…Thereafter [a pass is thrown] the rusher must be making an attempt to avoid contact and must not continue to “drive through” or otherwise forcibly contact the passer;”

(b) A rushing defender is prohibited from committing such intimidating and punishing acts as “stuffing” a passer into the ground or unnecessarily wrestling or driving him down after the passer has thrown the ball, even if the rusher makes his initial contact with the passer within the one-step limitation provided for in (a) above. When tackling a passer who is in a defenseless posture (e.g., during or just after throwing a pass), a defensive player must not unnecessarily or violently throw him down and land on top of him with all or most of the defender’s weight. Instead, the defensive player must strive to wrap up the passer with the defensive player’s arms and not land on the passer with all or most of his body weight….

(g) When the passer goes outside the pocket area and either continues moving with the ball (without attempting to advance the ball as a runner) or throws while on the run, he loses the protection of the one-step rule provided for in (a) above, and the protection against a low hit provided for in (e) above, but he remains covered by all the other special protections afforded to a passer in the pocket (b, c, d, and f), as well as the regular unnecessary roughness rules applicable to all player positions. If the passer stops behind the line and clearly establishes a passing posture, he will then be covered by all of the special protections for passers…

Notes:
A player who initiates contact against a passer is responsible for avoiding an illegal act…

When in doubt about a roughness call or potentially dangerous tactic against the quarterback, the Referee should always call roughing the passer.”

Absolutely. And while they wouldn't be cheering the injury itself, they certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over a division QB being knocked out of the game and possibly the season. Very few Packers fans would call such a shot dirty. Again, I think it was potentially illegal (he took two steps and then tackled him, but he didn't blow him up and it was borderline late) but definitely not dirty.

It wasn't a dirty shot, but it was unnecessary/excessive. Barr clearly saw Rodgers throw the ball he was just taking his free shot. A shove/shoulder to the chest would have still delivered the same message without the risk of serious injury. If rules are changed it will be with exactly that logic in mind.

This was a weird game. The Vikings offense got call after call after call in the first half. Anytime they needed to keep a drive alive, it seemed like they got a call

Rudolph released from the line and ran straight forward into Jones and drove him backwards. Defenders have the right to be on the field also, if the defender is in the way of the route that is called good defense the receiver should have to try adjust to work around him. If they just run into the defender it should be offensive penalty.

I don't want them to be dirty, but I also want them to take some hits when possible. It's football. The rules are far too bureaucratic. Some of you folks complaining about something "against the rules" are probably also folks that like to run around talking about "small government."

Hell, even back in middle school football, I was playing center, made the wrong block, and our star QB broke his collarbone. It's football, it happens. The less refs interfere with the game the better, imo.

Was taught to make hard hits, but not excessive. Its not hitting him or even tackling him, it is that Barr easily could have tackled him yet while on the way to the ground let him go and broke his fall with his arms lessening the weight piled on Rodgers. Even if he had done that, I'm not sure Rodgers would still not have broken the bone though.

Take a look at a picture of Rodgers and then a picture of Brady. Brady's pads are much bigger. I think Rodgers has scaled is should pads down so much they don't provide the protection when hitting the ground like this.

As for the head butt on Davante, that just seems calculated, given his recent concussion.

beast (17-Dec) : Seems like someone has a crush on me, can't stop talking about me

Mucky Tundra (16-Dec) : Okay I'm glad to know it's not just something happening to me lol
Mucky Tundra (16-Dec) : Zero, did you copy the Packers uniforms from last night and white out the board?
beast (16-Dec) : Oh crap, is the board going to the Winter Warning Uniforms too?!? It's all white on white right now!
