I really don't see how much good it would do to play ARod more than what they do in the 3rd game. First of all most teams plan to play their starters for at least awhile in the 3rd game so he would be going up against a legit defense. Playing him in game 1, 2, or 4 he would probably be going up against guys just trying to make a team.
Secondly, McCarthy isn't going to show his hand on what his plans are when the real season starts. So Arod and the starting offense goes out there and they run generic plays that they won't be running when it counts and that against lesser talent. What's he going to get out of that?
IMO the pre-season just doesn't offer a platform to get Rodgers sharper or more real game ready than all that they are doing now leading up to the season. It may help some teams that have two QB's fighting to become the starter that are far less talented and experienced who will get plenty of PT during pre-season but I would take him over that scenario all day.

GB and other teams don't invent plays for the PS. The may run basic plays but they are GB plays without all the route trees or variations.

If the PS games are so worthless then they should drop them all together and just practice. It would save injury and tipping off plays. Point is there is great value in PS games. Even for someone as great as Rodgers.

I know. I've seen it. Amazing isn't it?

On the other hand you can't disprove it either.

A little rusty in game 1 maybe but they aren't even game planning in preseason series. Slow starts most likely boil down to preparation throughout the entire training camp and preseason instead of the handful of fake reps against a mix bag of starters/back ups using generic schemes in preseason games.

I'm good with Key personnel not taking a single snap in preseason outside of maybe 1 game.

There's more than one poster here that believes we should have traded Rodgers and start Huntley and we'd likely be able to win a super bowl.

Also all we need is to have a bad pass from our backups to Jordy or Bennett or another starting receiving targets to put them in a bad position to get them hurt. One or two series each preseason game, where Arod and the starters play then pull all of them that they can and let the backups fight for their positions.

Still likely would have been worse with someone else under center, but I guess my point is that there's going to be risk no matter what you do so I don't get the overly protective attitude towards Rodgers. Beyond the obvious "What a disaster it'd be if he got hurt in the preseason, think of all the fan anger towards McCarthy for letting him play!" stuff - we saw some of that with the Jordy preseason injury.

If a player gets hurt week one, they will yell and scream that if they had played more in preseason they wouldn't have gotten hurt. Fans like to yell and scream

No matter what they claim, practice is different than even preseason games. WR will run routes different against our DBs in practice than they will against opposing teams. DBs will jam and cover harder against other teams. I may disagree with not playing starters, and think they should get a handful of snaps each preseason. I disagree even more with only certain players not playing. If the Oline is going to be in Rodgers and Jordy should also.
