Only part about training camp I'm less than thrilled about.

The rookie third-round pick will miss at least a significant portion of his first training camp with a foot injury. On Monday before his team took the field for its fourth training camp practice, Green Bay Packers  head coach Mike McCarthy spoke to the media on a handful of topics relating to his team. The Packers had held their first fully-padded practice on Saturday before having a day off on Sunday, and there were a few injuries to address.

The one significant injury involved third-round draft pick
Montravius Adams , the defensive tackle from Auburn. Adams suffered a foot injury on Saturday, and McCarthy confirmed that he will be out for a significant period of time. “I don’t have the specifics of how that’s going, but he’ll be out multiple weeks,” McCarthy said.

This is a disappointing blow for a young player who was expected to play a notable depth role up front this season. He was likely fighting for the fifth spot on the depth chart, battling among a group that includes Christian Ringo  and Brian Price. Given his status as a third-round pick, it is difficult to imagine the Packers cutting him at the end of camp, even given his injury. However, this setback will likely cost him most if not all of training camp.

Furthermore, the injury occurred after the start of camp, meaning that Adams is not eligible for the PUP list. If his injury is even more serious than McCarthy is indicating, he could be eligible for an Injured Reserve spot, potentially being designated for return later on in the season. If that is the case, however, he would have to be placed on IR after the final cut-down to the 53-man roster. Stay tuned over the next few weeks to see how the Packers address his situation moving forward.

Moving from the defensive line to the offensive line, McCarthy addressed how the offensive front can be expected to maintain a strong level of play despite the loss of three key players on the interior over the past year. He referred that back to the leadership present on that unit: “There’s a standard that’s set, the maturity, the veteran leadership. (OL coach) James Campen is outstanding. He’s one of the best in the business.” He also mentioned Jahri Evans ’ addition being a positive, saying “I think it always helps when you bring in a veteran that can bring another viewpoint into the group.”
Keep it here for updates from practice this morning.

Sucks for him. This is why you keep Guion around for a while, despite his issues. Ricky Jean signing was good for depth. When the fire starters tweet their tweets, they always conveniently leave him out of the mix...

Hopefully its not too serious and he's back for the regular season, might have to lower the expectations for this year and see him more as a 2-3 year project. There were some questions before the injury about whether he needed a year in the weight room to handle the physicality of playing DL.

Here we go again.

Sounds like they got three choices
  1. Place Adams on the 53 man roster based on potential
  2. Place Adams on the IR for the entire season
  3. Place Adams on the IR and use a IR return on him

Just IR him now.
He will be so far behind after "several weeks ", he wouldn't be much good anyway.

Looks like Guion gets one more shot.

Any veteran Dt's out there waiting to be signed?

Looks like the Patriots, Eagles, Giants and Seahawks all took a short look at Odrick but decided against signing him.

I heard Brian Price was already stepping up.

He probably would have offered more to the team this year than Adams would have before his injury (and especially now), but there was no way Adams was being cut as a rook. Now maybe Adams gets stashed on IR and a player like Price gets more of a chance to shine.

Also like was mentioned before the big winner in this may be Guion.

Martha Careful (25-Jun) : I would have otherwise admirably served
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Also, no more provision for a write-in candidate, so Martha is off the table at least for this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : You do have to interpret the boring fine print, but all stockholders all see he is on the ballot
dfosterf (25-Jun) : It also says he is subject to another ballot in 2028. I recall nothing of this nature with Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy is on my ballot subject to me penciling him in as a no.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : I thought it used to be we voted for the whatever they called the 45, and then they voted for the seven, and then they voted for Mark Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Because I was too lazy to change my address, I haven't voted fot years until this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
