Apparently the Green Bay Packers will not have the services of the fourth-round pick until later on this summer. Last season, outside linebacker Vince Biegel was expected to lead the Wisconsin Badgers ’ pass rush and he did so for the first few weeks of the season before suffering a foot injury and missing a pair of games. Unfortunately for the Badgers, both games he missed were close losses to conference foes, as they fell at Michigan and against Ohio State at home.
Biegel returned just 23 days after his original foot surgery and ended up posting a solid season overall, recording four sacks and six tackles for loss on 44 total tackles. He then became the Green Bay Packers ’ fourth draft choice in 2017, being selected with the first pick of round four.
The dream of playing for his home team is coming true for Biegel, but apparently the dream will be on hold for a few more weeks. According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky , Biegel had follow-up surgery on the same foot that cost him those two games last fall. Demovsky adds that the team is “hopeful” that he will return for the start of training camp in late July, but says it is “no guarantee”.
Packersnews.com’ s Ryan Wood is hearing a more optimistic timeline, however, reporting that the team “expects” Biegel to be back in time for camp .
This is a disappointing setback for Biegel, who also suffered a minor hand injury during rookie orientation practice on May 5th. He returned to practice the next day with a cast on his hand, however. He also put forth an excellent workout at this year’s Scouting Combine despite any lingering issues with the foot injury.
Stay tuned for more information on Biegel’s progress as the days tick down to the start of camp on July 26th.
