Bwahhaha.

Don't be shy Stephen A Smith. Tells us what you really think.

Personally the regular season was not a failure. Perhaps you can say their playoff season was. The combined would be considered a disappointment but I am not sure it is a failure.

I always think any team that gets out first round is a failure. Everyone knows no matter how great you are as a team you got 1 chance to win that SB & there's not guarantee that next year you'll be back!

Even for us if we were to lose id consider it a failure but not as bad as the Cowboys because they surpassed my expectations. This is why it's AR's chance to get his second ring and I hope he won't let this one slip by like we did back against the Seahawks couple of years back!

Ha ha ha... ALWAYS a matter of perspective. Of course, if I was a Cowboys fan that's a colossal failure. The 1 seed at home and you lose?

The other perspective is... they weren't thought to go 13-3 and be a 1 seed so they exceeded expectations and have two young stars on rookie contracts to go forward with.

Jerry's son didn't sound like he didn't think it was failure. He said he can't watch the game back on video and won't for a long long time.

Us, on the other hand, we were favored to roll through the regular season (which was dismal) and win the SB. Had we lost it would've been a total failure of a season to me.

Reaching the NFC Chip and losing is the point at which I consider the accomplishment which is good, but like was said by Jason Garrett...EVERY TEAMS GOAL IS TO WIN THE SB. Falling short of your goal is...FAILURE. There is no other definition if that's your goal. Now, a fan's goal might be completely different than the teams so your perspective plays a role. However, for the TEAMS, not winning it all is a failure of a season as it is a failure to achieve your goal.

EDIT: Just watched a clip that followed the SAS clip linked above that featured Merrill Hoge he said:
http://www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/18483749

"Very few players get to win a Super Bowl that's the only reason that you play."
---So, again, YES...Failure and a HUGE one.

Overall I have to say the Cowboys seasons was a big success FOR THE FUTURE... not for the now. I mean they know who their future QB is... and they know who they're going to build their complete future offense around.

Their playoffs this season was a fail, but I wouldn't say complete failure as you saw their rookies response well. They just need more/better pass rush and didn't have it (in part because one of their best pass rushers gets getting suspended and they keep trying to count on him... compared to the Packers getting rid of Pennel after two suspensions).

I guess they could see it as a failure. Really who thought they'd end up with the #1 seed after Romo went down?

They have a lot of good guys on cap friendly contracts. Unfortunately their window may be small when a bunch of these guys want to get paid.

As long as they've got Dak and Zeke, they'll have a chance, but that was a major missed opportunity right there. That team just put every defense in the NFC on notice though. Dak is the new age in QB and he's damn good.

Once some of that talent on offense starts leaving via free agency, if not replenished, they will regress because Dak is not Aaron Rodgers. I thought the same thing about Kaepernick. There was a time when he looked great, too. But yes, the Cowboys will have a nice window over the next 2-3 years.

I thought this was silly. Cowboys have two outstanding rookies at OB and RB.

Less of a failure than it would have been for the Packers. Dallas has a beat of an offensive line, a good veteran QB with a good rookie QB, and a frickin' beast of an RB. They're on the ascent, disappointing for Cowboys fans for sure but they've got a bright future.

Packers have a solid core as well, but with Rodgers getting older, there's more of a "we need to start doing more than winning a game or two then losing in the postseason" urgency going on.

One thing I heard from the local sports radio guys all day today was... you just never know if you'll ever get the #1 seed ever again. Troy Aikman had it only twice in his career per the guys on 105.3...all of them were still lamenting losing to Rodgers, oops, the Packers. Dan Marino was mentioned. Things shift quickly in the NFL. There is absolutely no guarantee Dallas is back in the playoffs much less a 1 seed. This might be the best chance Dak and Zeke ever have at winning it all.

The best moment of the radio show whining was when they broke from football to do the Top 6 MLK quotes...one of the Top 6 was:

"I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear." ---MLK Jr. The radio guy who didn't read the quote commented: I HATE YOU AARON RODGERS!

It is a huge failure to squander ANY post season opportunity. We think it's a given and it kind of is because we have one of the most special players ever to lacem up. Those days are soon to fade. Carpe diem. Let's not taste the failure Cowboys fans aren't enjoying today.

Considering the goal of playing is to be the team hoisting the Lombardi after all the games are played, 31 teams seasons end up as failures every year.

Dallas is now probably the most scary team going forward as of right now. Once they dump Romo and eat his dead money next year, still gaining over 5 million in cap space. They are looking at a couple years of having the money to keep a WR for Dak to throw to, to keep the Oline together to block for Elliot, improve the defense possibly and/or WR groups before Dak and Elliot are going to be due their payday. Thankfully they have Romo's terrible contract to somewhat limit they next year but after that look out if they manage it right.

The Cowboys season is absolutely not a failure in terms of long term views. I'm telling you now, they are replacing the Seahawks in the NFC. They have a great OL, young QB, young RB that are both studs from what we saw. They could also have a helluva LB in Jaylon Smith if that nerve gets working.

As for this season, yeah, you get the #1 seed and get bounced by a team that hasn't won in your State since the '60s you failed.

Overall, the future (dammit) is bright for Cowboys and they get to enjoy watching the Packers win the Super Bowl.

We beat the Cowboys a few years back in Dallas but that wasn't a playoff game.

It was extra sweet beating Jason freaking Garrett who may not even have that job if he hadn't beaten us.

Call it now - in 3 years when their o-line depletes from FA, the cowboys will not be the same team. Elliott will be like AP, eventually. Once the Cowboys lose all their weapons, we will see the real Dak Prescott - aka the new Colin Kaepernick.

But the next two years are THEIR window. But they will never win the SB. Why? They have Dak. Who is getting better, yes, but once he loses his weapons will never be the same QB again.

Should have started Romo.

EDIT: On the flip side and on a totally random subject, in about 2-3 years we will see the emergence of Paxton Lynch.

Dak was impressive, but so was Kapernick with his OL and Gore. Young Murray was impressive too.

The 2 biggest problems for Dallas are (1) Scot McCloughan [I am so glad he is not in our division], who is the best college talent evaluator in the NFL [And yaw'll know how I feel about Ted]; and (2) Jerry Jones.

Jones is a degenerate football gambler, who goes for the brass ring when it is reach and those guys NEVER are successful. When he tries to compete with McCloughan by co-opting players with huge upsides and injuries to their bodies or brains, he will eventually rain Armageddon down on his franchise.
