Jerry Jones just proved that even an idiot can learn.

REPORT: COWBOYS RELEASE TERRELL OWENS
Posted by Aaron Wilson on March 5, 2009, 12:17 a.m.

The Dallas Cowboys cut star wide receiver Terrell Owens tonight, according to Michael Smith of ESPN.com.

ESPN has posted a breaking news item on the front page of its Web site.

The report cites two sources, per the Cowboys blog on the Dallas Morning News.

In late February, Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones issued this comment when asked about Owens possible release: That [Cowboys vice president and Jones son] Stephen [Jones] and I were debating about Terrell, thats just misinformation. Thats just not accurate. I dont know where that comes from. Thats just total misinformation.

The Cowboys official Web site still lists Owens on the roster, but has posted a blog referencing the ESPN report. Per the blog, the Cowboys have not confirmed that Owens is off the team.

The headline on DallasCowboys.com states: Looks Like T.O. Gone, with a subheading that says, Reports Claim Owens Released; Cowboys Mum.

As of 1:00 a.m. EST, no Cowboys official would confirm the report to the official Web site or issue a comment.

According to NFL.com, Owens had 69 receptions for 1,052 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.

UPDATE: Citing sources, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram has confirmed ESPNs report that the Cowboys have released Owens.

Per the Star-Telegram, Owens, 35, was paid a $12 million signing bonus last year. It was a portion of his four-year, $34 million contract.

Updating the newspapers initial report, Clarence Hill and Mac Engel of the Star-Telegram wrote that petulant and controversial receiver Terrell Owens is no longer a member of the Dallas Cowboys.

The article references Owens run-ins last season with quarterback Tony Romo, tight end Jason Witten, and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. Sources told the newspaper: [T]he decision to drop Owens had everything to do with his age, and the fact he is no longer regarded as a legit No. 1 receiver.

Jones reportedly had spent weeks seeking input throughout the organization about Owens before reaching a conclusion that Owens had become a distraction and needed to be released prior to the launch of the offseason conditioning program scheduled to start in a few weeks.

On June 1, Owens was due a $3.1 million roster bonus.

UPDATE II: Now, Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News has confirmed that Owens has been cut, citing a source.

Watkins reports that team officials told Owens tonight that they had decided to go in a different direction, adding that multiple sources said that Owens potential exit had been under discussion for several days.

Apparently, the final decision to take this action wasnt made until Wednesday night.

Watkins reports that agent Drew Rosenhaus, who represents Owens, and Owens didnt return telephone calls.

Writing on the Morning News Cowboys blog, Tim MacMahon points out that Jery Jones issued a telling quote to Dallas television reporter Steve Dennis in a recent interview where Jones discussed wide receiver Roy Williams role for next season.

We all understand and maybe, maybe need to think through, is there enough balls? Jones said. Can there be enough balls to go around here? I think thats very, very important here. And we want Roy Williams to have a lot of balls.

UPDATE III: Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com has also confirmed the reports, citing Cowboys sources, and writes that the transaction seems to fit with the Cowboys plan to have a more harmonious locker room for 2009.

Glazer pointed out that Owens told the Dallas Morning News in May last year that he wanted to conclude his career with the Cowboys.

UPDATE IV: Per the Associated Press, a spokesman for the wide receiver said that Owens hadnt heard the news, adding that Owens was traveling and couldnt be reached for comment.

He will have to go to a team with a established QB...

Minny would be out..

Denver, New Orleans, or Chargers

I thought Tampa cuz they have the $4 but I dont think he would go there.

I don't care where he goes but just not to Detroit, Minny, or the Bears. They are discussing the Vikes getting him on Mike and Mike and the ideas Greenie said was scary. As a defense do you roll the coverage back to stop TO or do you try to single cover him and stop AP. Thats scary i would say.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Wasn't it Major Dad that had the shouting match with T.O. when Chilly was in Philadelphia, resulting in T.O. getting a suspension?

Yes, Minnesota would be an excellent fit for T.O.

Zero2Cool (58m) : Cardinals have signed TE Josiah Deguara.
Zero2Cool (8h) : If I were to "Google" it, then I wouldn't read it in your words.
Martha Careful (9h) : Yes, in the military S2’s work on IPB, PERCEC, PHYSEC and IO
dfosterf (4-May) : FYI civilian companies swipe the S2 designation from the military. S2 is the intelligence branch up to brigade level. G2 is division level.
dfosterf (4-May) : Google it. Make sure to tack NFL on it or you will get the military meaning
Zero2Cool (4-May) : S2?
beast (4-May) : Seems like the S2 has a love/hate relationship with professional scouts.
beast (4-May) : In theory, the S2 test how quickly a QBs brain can solve game like issues and how quickly they can do it.
dfosterf (4-May) : Are you gentlemen and at least one lady familiar with the S2 cognition
Zero2Cool (4-May) : Maybe there isn't an issue.
beast (4-May) : NFL really needs to fix their position labeling issue, but I don't think they care
Zero2Cool (1-May) : Packers did not activate the fifth-year options for linebacker Quay Walker, with the goal of signing him to a contract extension.
Zero2Cool (1-May) : Matthew Golden spoke with Randall Cobb before draft. Looked like chance encounter.
packerfanoutwest (1-May) : from a head left turn?
packerfanoutwest (1-May) : someone drunk?
Zero2Cool (1-May) : Unlikely.
dfosterf (30-Apr) : How long until Jeff Sperbeck's family sues John Elway ?
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : Packers are exercising the fifth-year option on DT Devonte Wyatt, locking in a guaranteed $12.9M for the 2026 season.
beast (30-Apr) : Sounds like P Luke Elzinga has a rookie try out opportunity from the Titans
dfosterf (30-Apr) : Luke Elzinga Punter Oklahoma stil unsigned. Green Bay has been mentioned as good fit
beast (30-Apr) : The Packers re-signed three exclusive rights free agents WR Melton, P Whelan and RB Wilson.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : February 5, 2002 (age 23) ok no. packers.com is wrong

Martha Careful (28-Apr) : RIP Packer Safety Tim Brown
beast (27-Apr) : Yeah, but also some of the wording suggestions Jax only pranked called the QB, not the others... and if he had an open spreadsheet & 3 calls
beast (27-Apr) : Thank goodness he's not leaving the Turtle in the Red Tide
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : Cowboys 1st round pick Tyler Booker will indeed be bringing his pet turtle to Dallas with him
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : that contained all prospects info and contact
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : beast, according the Falcons statement Jax came across it on an ipad. If I had to guess, probably an open spread sheet or something
Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : Simmons put up an emoji with cheese.
beast (27-Apr) : Not sure anyone is interested in Isaiah Simmons... Collin Oliver might of taken his potential slot
beast (27-Apr) : I'm going with Jax Ulbrich is not telling the whole truth... he accidentally came across it? Why would a defensive coordinator have a QB #?
Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : He's not that great, but final piece of the script.\
Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : If we add Isaiah Simmons, book your Super Bowl tickets
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : Colts 1st round TE Tyler Warren also got prank called, was that Jax Ulbrich as well?
Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : Jax Ulbrich, Jeff Ulbrich’s son, released an apology for his role in the Shedeur Sanders prank call.
Martha Careful (27-Apr) : apparently he did not participate in practice or play on the east west shrine game nor the NFL combine. The kid was a mediocre spoiled brat
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : Yeah that one that was a super wounded duck that Sanders supporters are highlighting to prove a point
Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : Shough is the guy who missed guys at combine isn't he?
beast (27-Apr) : It's not official until I'm dead! I have a chance still! (Not really)
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : I could feel my body decomposing in real time when I read that
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : @MIKEYSAINRISTIL Tyler Shough will officially be the last person drafted to the NFL born in the 1900’s
Mucky Tundra (26-Apr) : saw the tweet, he meant the city
Mucky Tundra (26-Apr) : Was that for the team or the city?
Zero2Cool (26-Apr) : Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter · 3m Draft grade is in: Green Bay gets an A. The people, the city, the venue were all superb. NFL Draft’s next
