From PFT:

The Washington Redskins, despite previously stating that defensive end Jason Taylor will return for another season, will be releasing him, a league source tells us.

The team was willing to keep Taylor at his $8 million salary, but asked for a workout clause to be added to his contract.

The workout clause would have required Taylor to attend 25 of 39 days of the offseason program, and he refused.

And so the move was made. Taylor will soon be on the market.

JT seems like such a dick. Wow, not showing up to workouts is worth losing $8 million???

That or he's running out of years and he's using this as an excuse, knowing he will never have a chance at a ring with the Skins. He was stuck with the Dolphins for almost his entire career and then ends up playing for an average team in possibly the best division in football.

Redskins release All-Pro DE Taylor
By John Clayton
ESPN.com

The Washington Redskins released defensive end Jason Taylor on Monday after the six-time All-Pro failed to accept a workout commitment.

According to a source, Taylor was asked by the Redskins to take part in 75 percent of their offseason workouts. That would have required him to be at the Redskins' facility during eight of the 13 weeks of the offseason program, three days a week.

Family took precedence over the money.

With three children, Taylor, who has a home in the Miami area, opted not to agree to the workout provisions. The team was willing to keep his restructured salary at $8.5 million, but his desire to be with his family in the offseason was more important in his life.

For their part, the Redskins needed cap room for a six-year, $54 million contract signed last week by cornerback DeAngelo Hall.

"Jason Taylor was a real professional during his time with the Redskins," coach Jim Zorn said in a statement. "He played hurt, but still gave his best effort to be prepared and play hard every week. We wish him and his family the very best."

Taylor came to the Redskins from the Miami Dolphins for a second-round choice in 2009 and a sixth-rounder in 2010.

The 34-year-old's 120.5 career sacks are the most among active NFL players. But he had just 3.5 last season.

Despite his departure from the Dolphins, Taylor is still interested in continuing his NFL career.

Being focused on the family stuff, it seems like he may be interested in settling down in Green Bay. Not that I am saying I want him. (Personally I don't see how he fits in to our D except when we play 4-3).

IF he came, he would be a hybrid like when he was in Miami. Unfortunately that spot is currently taken by AK-74

I'd take him for the experience and leadership. Considering he got injured last season, that'll affect the kind of money he commands.

Had he attended Washington's OTA's, he would've made an automatic 8MIL, so really--with Jason Taylor, money isn't the issue.

He has shown the past two seasons that he is very effortless. Doesn't really care about the team either if he isnt showing up for workouts or practices.

Take Vonnie over JT.

JT is not Packer people.

I'd consider him for a reasonable price. I don't think I'd pay him as much as I would've Chris Canty, but I think Taylor has enough left. Is he going to sack the QB 14 times? Probably not, but hey 7 sacks from the OLB position opposite of Aaron Kampman is an upgrade over what GB has.

Does he still have the motor for 3-4 OLB?
