I believe the Packers dropped the ball on this one. You really need him in for a visit to set the parameters for a deal? Canty probably won't flourish much in New York and he wouldn't of put up huge numbers here either, but it's tough to find a five technique and that's what Canty is. He wasn't worth the money he got, but nobody is worth the contract they get in free agency.

I do think it's encouraging that Green Bay engaged in conversations with an agent this early though. That type of commitment has not been seen at all since Ted Thompson took over as GM. Hopefully this means the Packers are willing to go out and get some players. GB may of missed out on Canty, but there are still viable options out there yet and players are sure to be released between now and the draft.

They talked but they never even offered a contract. I guess they called Cantys bluff and since he got a good deal from NY and was satisfied he went with.

Ted has to ask himself does the team need the player? or is his mind set waiting for the player to come to him?? Because if it's the later, it would explain a lot, and he'll never have an success in the offseasons if that is the case.

Now I'm not a Ted basher really. He know's what he's doing but he HAS to be more aggressive in going after what it is that the team needs. Signing a bunch of backup DT's will likely do nothing for us.
