Packers linebacker said he required numbing injection to play through shoulder pain

Do you think it was a cheap shot?

When I saw it live I thought it might be but on replay it looked like a legal block. No flag and I don't expect a fine. CM3 went down hard but I think that was because he was not looking around. He was focused on the QB and thus caught off guard and unprepared.

Clay forgot one of the first rules of football, "Keep your head on a swivel". It cost him.

Yeah, it was kind of "cheap". However, this is football. You want to win? Take anything you can get. Why many call football the "true man's game".

I didn't think it was a cheap shot.
That's the kind of legal hit every football player dreams of laying on an opponent.
Matthews probably feels like it was because he absolutely didn't see it coming.

The Warren Sapp play on Chad Clifton was much worse.

"I was just blocking whoever and it turned out to be the quarterback and obviously calls are going to go in their direction whether it was a blind-side hit or whatever," Matthews said Sunday after the game. "I'm just looking to pick up a block and unfortunately that's just how the game played out."

Clay didn't have a problem with his similar hit on Russell Wilson in that NFC Championship. I guess it's different when you are the one that gets blown up.

The hit was technically legal; but ONLY because there is no way to make a rule, which would prevent this type of inappropriate hit. The NFL has legislated a ban on excessive hitting, especially against defenseless players; but in an effort to achieve uniform calls on field, the language of the rule only addresses where the player is hit and what part of body is levying the hit.

The hit on Mathews was excessive and done for the purpose of injury and thus a cheap shot; it would be more of a cheap shot if it was illegal and even more of a cheap shot if he also came with an elbow to the head [there are degrees of cheap shot]. This is clearly a violation of the spirit of the rules. Babre may get a fine, but at least gets a letter telling him to just stop it.

There's nothing technical about the hit being legal. It was legal. End of story. Stop making excuses and trying to create a gray area.

Was Clay crying
Should they try and legislate (I hate more rules)
Will there be a fine on a legal hit
