Mom has a bad hip for a few years. It finally got so bad that her kids ignored her request and scheduled surgery tomorrow at Mayo's.

She is in so much pain. She thinks that the pain will be even worse afterward. No matter how many times we and the doctors assure her that she will be better (just the typical post op pain which will decrease with time) she doesn't believe it nor does she remember.

It has gotten so bad that she has gone from hobbling around to walking with a cane to using a walker to having to use a wheelchair all in a few weeks. My youngest brother is a doctor and he saw her about a month ago. He said he is surprised how much worse she has gotten.

We have been here since Thursday and she asks to go home every day. We finally got to the night before kickoff.

What a long road this has been.

I'm sorry to hear that. Your Mom is just plain scared.
Please tell her I will be praying for her.
Her quality of life will greatly improve with the surgery!
Short term it will hurt, but long term she will be happy she did it!

My aunt is in Mayo today for the same reason, hip surgery.

Wishing your Mom nothing but the best and a healthy recovery.

Surgery went well. Hip pain gone then the meds wore off. 😞

Good thing they gave her some more.

When I had my shoulder surgery, my doctor warned me that for a few months it would hurt even worse then it did before, but then would feel a whole lot better.
I'm sure that it will be that way for your Mom, too. Tell her to hang in there! It WILL get better!!!
