I do like Crockett.

But they could always bring Don Jackson back for the PS.

Crocket, Janis, Abbrederis, or the rookie Davis. Which do you think would have the best chance of making it to the practice squad if cut?

I'm not even sure if Janis/Abbrederis could qualify for a practice squad but it probably wouldn't matter since both would likely get picked up by another team for a look.

I don't think Davis will get cut unless he struggles a lot in pre-season but if he shows anything at all with that speed I wouldn't risk him getting picked up.

Crockett does make the most sense since he's a UFA who's never shown much on film to standout, I like the guy but if Montgomery can be counted on as the #3 RB in a pinch I think you try and sneak Crockett onto the PS.

Sorry this just isn't true. They keep the 53 that will make the best TEAM.

Exaggerated example- No organization keeps the #4 QB or # 15 LB simply because he is a better athlete than the #6 DB.

Closer to reality- GB won't keep a #3 QB even if he is a superior player over the 10th DB. Every team needs a certain number of bodies at every position. They may fill in with others already on the team. A TE could be a FB. An OLB may line up at DB. OLmen fill in at more than one position.

Arguably GB could use Cobb as a RB but I don't see them keeping only 2 RB.

I'm talking about keeping guys who you are going to use on game days (or talent projects you keep for the future) over guys who are just "emergency JAG" players. It just happens that we have a group of WRs who will probably play on game day due to talent (abby) versatility (monty) or ST contributions (Janis). The only WR I see being inactive often on game days is Davis while I don't see them activating Crockett over any of the others barring injuries to other RBs. TE kind of falls in here too where I could see them going with only 2 because after Rodgers and Cook you don't have much for ST contributors and all you've really got is practice squad quality JAG guys.

Unless Crockett has become a ST demon he wont have much to offer in a single game situation unless 1 and 2 RB get hurt. If they know ahead of time one of 1 or 2 might not be ready to play then they can just pull #3 up from the practice squad whoever it is for the game. So like I said, don't keep 3 just to have 3 unless your 3 is good enough that you plan to give him snaps on game day. If Crockett is good enough then yeah keep him but if he's just a guy then try and get him onto the practice squad or if he gets taken just get another guy of similar quality there.

as far as your example, #3 QB isn't going to play on game day and probably isn't much better than a QB on the street while the 10th db likely plays ST or has more of a chance to be active on game day. If 3rd QB is a 1st round draft pick or something who isn't ready yet you damn well bet they'd keep him over a 10db.

I like this idea if Crock isn't one of the best 53. When the cold hits we will need 3 RB on roster because of Lacy's asthma; but if Croc is like #57, no doubt 4 guys will be hurt by the time winter hits.

If injuries hit in a game, as Nerd constantly reminds us😁, Cobb and Monty can cover at RB [Monty may even excel] and then Crock gets called up next week just as Steve said.

Is someone tries to raid Crock from PS, often guys can be kept by promising more $$$ or Crock will probably give them a chance to promote him.

Only down scenerio comes If Crock is raided, and then injuries hit. But, they'll be a serviceable vet out there, just look at RBs in the AFC east. Daniel Thomas, Pead, Khiry Robinson, Bilil Powell, Devlin, Donald Brown, Karlos Williams will all be cut or we can snatch good young RBs from those team's taxi squads.

If the situation is dyer like Starks and Lacy are on IR a decent back can be had for a 5th or 6th rnd pick or we could trade one of our OLBs for one. We'd probably do this even if Crock made the 53.

I dont see Rajon Neal or Alonzo Harris out there; but Dujon Harris is currently w/ SF, we could get him for a song if he's not a street FA.

Serviceable RBs are a dime a dozen and a nickel on Sundays.

There is a lot of preseason left to either show how good they are, or get injured.
So until the final cut down, that's when we will know who they plan to keep.
I want to see how far Hundley has progressed. If he will be a decent back up if needed. ( I hope we don't need him, unless it's to mop up a lop sided win!)

I'm a very strong believer in teams need at least three RBs... two RBs for a game, and third for WHEN (not if, but when) one of the top two gets injured.

That being said, I'm not sure the Packers currently have a 3rd RB that is worthy of a 53 man roster spot... they might, but they need to step it up some. Maybe keep an eye on the Seahawks roster, as they drafted 3 RBs and already had Thomas Rawls and Christine Michael.

Maybe they keep 2 RBs and 2 FBs. Squirewell didn't look too bad out there.

I like the idea but I don't see it happening.

I like the idea because besides Lacy and Starks all the other RBs are the same, none is really special so if Lacy or Starks get injured you can just call the next Samkon Gado from your rolodex. Finding a serviceable RB is easier than finding a good WR as we just experienced last season.

But I don't see it happening because we already have an excess of TEs, Richard Rodgers and Jared Cook are locks. I don't think they would want to cut Backman now that he is producing and Perillo is having a very nice preseason. That makes a total of 4 TEs and the 5th is Mitchell Henry!

So 7WRs and 4TEs ? Impossible, that's a whole team.

Zero2Cool (15h) : Eagles traded up for Carter, didn't they?
Mucky Tundra (16h) : Obviously he was a huge risk but getting a top 5 talent on the dline in the mid 20s is fortuitous
Mucky Tundra (16h) : Jalen Carter falling into their lap certainly helps
TheKanataThrilla (16h) : And we could only wish to have this type of D
TheKanataThrilla (16h) : It's not like Philly has had low draft picks, but has managed to get themselves a top notch pass rush. We spend so much draft capital of D
packerfanoutwest (16h) : another crap halftime show
TheKanataThrilla (16h) : I think it is over, but then I think of Atlanta and want Philly to go in with the same intensity in the second half
Mucky Tundra (16h) : And with a Pass Rush that might as well be on a milk cartoon and no Jaire
Martha Careful (16h) : I cant help but feel good about how well the Packers D played in Philly during the playoffs
Mucky Tundra (16h) : this game is over
Mucky Tundra (16h) : This might be the kill shot here
Mucky Tundra (16h) : oh that's such a bad penalty for KC after getting the 3rd down stop
TheKanataThrilla (16h) : Philly DL has come to play
TheKanataThrilla (16h) : Ceoper DeJean with the INT scored...bad memories of draft night
Mucky Tundra (16h) : ok scratch that
