It talks about what he did before the injury. People were saying he wasn't that great even before it, but he definitely was having a standout season.

no he wasn't. he was getting run over, run around, and pushed around. sorry to burst the feel-good bubble, but that's the truth as far as I'm concerned.

He had injuries for most the season and our d-line was awful for the most part. I don't care how great a linebacker you are, if your line can't keep blockers off you, you will struggle. Just ask Ray Lewis...

fair enough. there's plenty of blame to go around. i'm refuting the OP's statement that barnett was having a standout year prior to his injury.

I think that what Bozz means is that Barnett wasn't playing to great.

When you get run over, miss tackles, take bad angles and don't cover to great, all that's left is his speed. It doesn't matter how good your D-line is in that case, you just wheren't playing to well.

That said, I expect him to come back in his regular killing-form next year. I hope Moss figures out the tackling problems though.

I just really hope that he can come back and perform in the best way possible.

He is our leader on that defense, gets them pumped up before the games, and he is pretty good on field. I'm tired of hearing people say that he had a horrible season and he can't play anymore, because he can (if the knee heals).

He was leading the team in tackles...but yes, he may need to work on shedding blockers, but if he's going to be in the middle, he doesn't have to worry about that as much as covering tight ends/running backs.

I like Barnett, one of my favorite players on the team.

He is our version of Ray Lewis IMHO. (Don't bash me for comparing him to Ray Ray, because I'm not. I'm just saying that he is our emotional leader on defense.)

It took me about 2 hours to read that damn article. Typos on a MB are fine, but when you're writing an article, have a literate friend or family member proof-read for you.

Good god.

I imagine that Dom Capers will want to stamp his own mark on the defence. He will make changes if Ted Thompson agrees to them.

in a 53 man squad, in 3-4 teams, typically have 4 OLB and 4 ILB.

OLB- Kampman, Thompson, Hunter/Poppinga and draft pick.

ILB- Hawk, Barnett, Bishop/Chillar/Lansanah and draft pick

Already you can see that guys like Poppinga/Hunter, Montgomery, Bishop/Chillar/Lansanah will all be cut or traded.

I would be very surprised if we dont make any LB additions in free agency and the draft. Our defence was shit this season and Capers has been hired to fix that but can he fix our defence with the same players who played so poorly?

Barnett was clearly struggling before he got hurt and I don't agree at all that he was having a standout season. He was average at best and sometimes below average. He was over aggressive more than usual and that's saying something when talking about Barnett. Didn't tackle with good technique, but not many on the team did.

I do agree that his demise is premature. He's in the prime of his career yet and the ACL injury isn't as serious as it once was. Don't get me wrong it's serious, but it's not career ending. You can bounce back now. I think he's probably the starter in the middle along side Hawk this year.
