We should send Bulaga, Lindsley, and 4th rounder to Cleveland for Joe Thomas, since they lost Alex Mack today.

We would then have and Oline that line up like this:

LT - Joe Thomas
LG - Sitton
C - Tretter
RG - Lang
RT - Bahktiari

Cleveland would be getting two starters in return for their All Pro tackle, and we would get our good player off the pine and into the lineup.

Bulaga’s hit is 5.5M in 2016. If we trade him, 6.4M will be the dead money/cap hit. Thomas would cost 8.3M in 2016 [and a favorable 8.8M in 17 and 18 to Bulaga’s 7.9M and 8.4M]. So the trade of Bulaga for Thomas would zap 9.2M of 2016 cap space. Also the only OLmen we’d have under contract in 2017 are Thomas and Taylor and 10.1M less to do anything about it in 2016 and 2017. In 2017, we'd need a lot more than OL depth.

The 4th could be a Lang, Sitton, Baktieri , Linsley or Daniels.

$9M Thomases and $8M Bulagas don’t win championships; it’s guys like Linsley [$2m total for 2016-17] and the guys mentioned above playing cheap and very well that provide the ONLY way for a team to win. Denver won because they had a stable of them: Von Miller, S.Williams, Wolf, Jackson, Travethan, Marshall, Roby, Harris, Barrett, Webster, Anderson, Osweiler. Elway did his very best to eff it all up with FAs!

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Having the stud Thomas in one spot wont help as much as you'd think because D. Coordinators would just attack the weaker players.

Bakhtiai already struggles at the blindside, you think he'd be any better on the right? I sure don't.

LT - Bahktiari
LG - Sitton
C - Linsley
RG - Lang
RT - Bulaga

Backup T - Tretter

When healthy, this is a very solid group that plays above their individual talent.

Joe Thomas is 31, which for Tackle I would say he has 3 - 5 very good seasons left. I would give up the 4th and David Bahktiari for him. The Browns would do this because they know Joe wants out, it would give them another draft pick and free up some salary space.

It makes the most sense for both teams.

Browns have wanted two first round picks for LT Joe Thomas... I'm not sure if Bulaga, Lindsley, and 4th rounder come close enough. Plus it hurts the Packers who could be in the last year with their starting OGs, and as others have talked about, Bak struggles most with power moves which he would probably see more of at any of the other OL positions.

It might be easier and cheaper to just draft OTs Jack Conklin or Taylor Decker in the first round. Though they're not as much of a sure thing as Joe Thomas, but you get to keep all (or most) of the other OL and they'll probably be playing after Thomas retire.

Plus I think Bulaga or Conklin could be moved to OG and be one of the best OGs in the NFL (not as sure with Decker on that). Of course that's assuming Bulaga can stay healthy.

I like the idea of Thomas, Sitton, Tretter, Taylor, Bulaga as the starters Lang should have some value in trade and we are likely to lose him after this season as well as losing Tretter if he doesn't become the starting C he is not a long term starter at any other position on the line but is flexible to be able to play them all in a pinch, Linsley doesn't have that flexibility.

Thomas is a huge upgrade over Bahktiari, Tretter/Linsley is about push, Sitton and Bulaga would be the same, and Taylor is likely to be a decline from Lang right away at least. I like the about 12lbs of increased size Tretter and Taylor would have over Linsley and Lang. Would be a tough line, and I think having an in shape lacy running behind that left side would be fun to watch.

Until the season starts, we can dream.

dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024

dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
