If you were a star free agent, would you rather go to Green Bay, or to a team like Washington or Dallas, where you could not only get your $10mil/year but then the owner can hook you up with a phat advertising contract on the side and you could be in a larger market (not to mention an area with a night life for black players?)

That doesn't attract the Field of Dreams convoy of free agents.

You have to pay a lot to get them here, or you have to find the right scenario (Woody and Peppers).

Additionally, Yerko and others raised the point - WHO DO YOU SIGN? Anyone can say "just spend $" but on who? What "Andre Rison" was sitting out there?

For one reason or another NE is a counter-example to any explanation we want to find for our team status.

- We never draft very high neither do they
- We have Rodgers so we can't waste in FAs, they have Brady and are very active in FA
- We claim our best WR got injured, they play with 2nd/3rd tier WRs and have no problem

You ever hear Bill Belichick say they lost 3 games and were beat only by 1 when explaining 4 losses? No chance. Personally, I enjoy the uninformed football fans who just simply cry "cheaters" in regard to the Patriots. It shows just how little they know and easily they are persuaded with their lack of mental fortitude.

Seahawks push the envelope and aren't shy about it. "Seahawks engage in blatant pass interference on a regular basis, accepting that a penalty will be called from time to time but realizing that the officials won’t call it every time."

The Packers do not push the envelop nor do they do a great job of coaching up their players as a staff. Joe Whitt Jr does well, Edgar Bennett did well with the receivers and Joe Philbin did well with Aaron Rodgers. The bigger issue though is Packers are slow to make changes, especially if there is a tight friendship involved.

Oh, something else to add. Regarding the Patriots playing with 2nd/3rd tier WR's with no problem, do you know that guy Rob Gronkowski? Yeah, he makes a huge difference, just like Jermichael Finley did for the Packers. Finley's loss was far more crippling to the Packers offense than just his production.

Look at the Badgers. Why did RBs come to the Badgers? Because they knew they would have a huge line in front of them and the team would run the ball.

Damn this wagon is getting awful crowded lol. I remember when it was only me and a very few that disliked Ted Thompson but now we have to get a bigger wagon lol.

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

So while I like the analogy I don't think it holds enough water.

Green Bay is undoubtedly one of the last places NFL players would choose to play.

In 1996, almost 20 years ago, the Packers won the Super Bowl.

That team included the following FREE AGENTS: QB Jim McMahon, WRs Don Beebe, Andre Rison, and Desmond Howard, OLineman Bruce Wilkerson, Jeff Dellenbach, DLineman Reggie White, Sean Jones, Santana Dotson, Gilbert Brown, LB Ron Cox, and DBs Eugene Robinson & Mike Pryor.

Ron Wolf also traded for TE Keith Jackson and QB Brett Favre.

Serious question for those who insist the Packers can't sign veteran free agents due to their location, do you really believe that Green Bay has deteriorated since 1996 to the point that free agents will no longer play in the Frozen Tundra?

Or, could it be that TT's philosophy for building a roster does not include adding veteran players from other teams unless there is absolutely no other viable option?

I think the fact Ted Thompson has not made a trade for a NFL player in nearly 9 seasons (and trades do not require the player's consent) is pretty strong circumstantial evidence as to TT's approach to building the roster.

Never trading for cards unless I'm ahead and clearly getting the better part of the bargain from someone desperate serves me well in settlers of catan, for what that's worth.
