Randall Cobb on Davante Adams: 'People are trying to tear him down'

ESPN wrote:

In other words, he's being scapegoated.

Mike is too much of a spineless coward to stand up to his star QB and tell him to get with the program. So he goes out in the press conference all pissed off, rips the second year WR who is already pressing too much while coming back from a high ankle sprain and then also blames the refs.

No mention of Aaron throwing it in the dirt on WR screens, no mention of the statwhoring run abandonment when both RBs are unstoppable, no mention of the 8+ seconds in the pocket Aaron holds the ball for, no mention of Aaron throwing off the back of his foot and not using proper mechanics.

Nah, just throw the young guy under the bus.

Mike took some shots at Aaron last week, something like he's forcing the game or whatever.

It's minutes after the game and DA and EL clearly had some bad screw ups/games. I'm surprised he said anything directly about a player, but were the comments unwarranted?

As a coach the pressers are a nuisance. I'm sure the last thing he wants is to be there and would rather be with his family for a few minutes on Thanksgiving, see the film, game plan, or whatever.

We dissect every word he does/n't say. He didn't mention JJ or Masthay's clunkers - does that mean he's not aware of them? No, it just means that in a 10 minute press conference you answer a few questions. Uffda held to some passing comments about Adams MVP offseason or Janis looking good for months. It's a press conference, it's predominantly PC coachspeak, and he just happened to be pissed at Eddie and Davante, as were all of us.

Vic talked about it in his column today. I think the Packers were really close to 50:50 prior to going to towards the 4th quarter. I'm not saying it's not a valid point since the Packers were moving the ball that way, but there were changes in circumstances too. Also, the Packers could/would have won even with the disproportionate ratio if JJ and DA had not dropped or messed up the 3rd and 4th down passes.

Fact is, Adams has had too many drops.
That's FACT.
He's getting paid big bucks to catch the ball.
If his injured ankle is bad enough to cause him to keep dropping passes, he shouldn't be on the field as he's hurting the team. Not helping it.

True he hasn't been playing up to the standards we are used to, but if the WRs started actually CATCHING the footballs that are thrown their way, you would see Rodgers numbers going up.
So you can't put so much blame on the QB if he has no one to throw to.

Second, ACTUAL FACT: has Adams had a problem with drops? NO! So why the drops?

A receiver with great hands like Adams drops the ball for one and only one reason: His attention is focused on something else than the catch!
Aaron Rodgers is inaccurate on most of his throws: the last play of Bears game was supposed to go low; it's practiced all week, all year-to go low and suddenly Adams has to refocus and try to catch the ball high. There was a pass to JJ that was in his bread basket on SL and he dropped it because he was expecting the throw to go low!!!!!!
Aaron Rodgers is making a ton of bad reads: All week, all year in practice like on the slant INT; if the scout team has a S or LB in the position that Bears were in, the throw dont go there. YOU DONT THROW A SLANT WHEN A GUY IS WHERE THAT SAFETY WAS.

Basically when the WRs are running their routes they're over-thinking. They think to themselves, "what should I do, what should I do, OMFG what should I do, sh!t if I make the "wrong" move Lord Rogers will yell at me or call me out in the media." So because he's unsure of where the ball is going or if he's running the route the way lord Rodgers thinks he should run it, the inevitable result is more drops.

Sometimes drops are 100% the fault of the WR; but A LARGE % of the times, drops are caused in part by the QB not being precise.

If MVP Rodgers comes back, the drops will stop! If Aaron Rodgers continues to protest the game plan by playing like crap all the while maintaining his, "I be Packer god" mentality, then it's just more of the same.

Fans that dont understand the game and the dumba$$ media made excuses for an off the rails Favre for 8 years. Good news, Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy wont put up with AR's bullsh!t for 8 years. he fixes it by end of next year or Bye-bye. BTW, this is not Aaron Rodgers hate [and I dont see Nerd "hating" Rodgers]; the same holds true for any player that has had success, but suddenly stops playing up to his contract.

According to AR, the 4th down throw was intended for Cobb, behind DA in the endzone, so it may have been on target.

As for the slant, even Mike McCarthy alluded to that being on DA for not completing the route...others have speculated if run correctly it may have generated a PI/IC.

Vic Ketchman has commented in his articles the WRS routes can't be trusted so Aaron Rodgers is struggling leading the WRs and instead throwing more to where they are. He referenced MN and the struggles with outs (and I say back shoulders disappearance) as examples of this.

There are also flat out, inexcusable drops by Cobb, DA on a slant that easily could have gone 6, JJ on 3rd and goal was arguably a manageable catch, etc. You're right, it's focus, but when you have yards of separation you can't blame anyone else (JJ didn't have yards, but others have).

Aaron Rodgers has had his issues. Of many examples his early game 3rd and 2 skip to Cobb on a bubble. Some discuss unwillingness to run, demeanor, etc. and all are fair. That said, to say this is predominantly on Aaron Rodgers is overlooking a lot of information we have to formulate our opinions.
