Janis is tall enough to play TE, he'd have to bulk up at least 20 lbs or so.i guess I'll say at least 10lbs, isn't he at about 220lbs right now?

Dude isn't the crispest route runner, but you don't need a Greg Jennings type route runner at TE. I mean, obviously that's something toward which he should work, but I think he might be a step up from what we've got there right now.

Dude has shown a willingness to block downfield, too. He might not be blowing people off the line as an inline blocker, but he could certainly chip people. He'd probably be as good a blocker as Jimmy Graham.

Dude has the speed to get down the seam too.

Might be a way to kill two birds with one stone. Get some pass catching depth at TE, be able to stretch the field and get this guy with crazy skills onto the field.

I'm kind of looking at TE as being a dumbed down version of WR, and that may or may not be the case, but I think it's something they could try. Hell they tried Peppers last year.

Janis doesn't catch the ball with his hands or attack the ball in the air like a WR. But you can't always expect that kind of gracefulness from a TE. Just sayin.

Interesting idea.

I think the Packers are going to go the usual boring route of waiting for the dumbass to learn his routes. But if they were to do this he'd probably have to gain 20 pounds and still be used 75% of the time split outside ala Jimmy Graham. It would add a missing mismatch to the offense that they haven't had since Finley got hurt.

He is not built to be a TE and even if he adds weight he won't be built to be a TE. He would be an overweight WR playing TE. No telling how much of his speed he would lose doing so. Bodies have an ideal playing weight and he is pretty much at his.

I don't think they are game planning and scheming to maximize our TE now and I don't expect them to in the near future. They are going to be chip blockers and check downs unless we get new play callers.

I think the best use of Janis would be to motion him around the formation to keep DBs from being able to press him and let him use his speed to open the field.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

He doesn't need to be a TE but I would rather see Janis split out instead of all the plays they ran Perillo out there.

It seems Janis problem is mental he hasn't earned the coaches & Rodgers trust to run his routes.
I can't imagine they would trust him to block.

The guy that can play some TE is Ty Montgomery, he can play RB, WR or TE and he has the physical and metal skills to play the three positions. I think we have a very special player in Montgomery and I hope we can take profit from this.

Why is everybody obsessed with Janis?

Just another ho-hum player that doesn't make the Packers better in any way.

Randall Cobb is going to be dealing with that shoulder all season.
Davante Adams is slowed by an ankle injury
James Jones has a wicked hamstring injury
Ty Montgomery has an ankle injury

Who does that leave you with?
Jared Abbrederris and Jeff Janis.

Between those two, which has big play potential that is lacking in the Packers offense?
Jeff Janis.

We've witnessed the hobbled WR corp(se) not produce, so those who you feel are "obsessed" are most surely clamoring for trying something "different" because what has been attempted before is not cutting it to their expectations.
