Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence and three times is a trend, which makes the Green Bay Packers' stellar defense a trend for three weeks in a row. Whether that trend is a season long trend remains to be seen, but the Packers have looked like a different defense the last three weeks

If Mike McCarthy's influence is the difference in the defensive performances, he deserves a ton of credit . . . as well as a ton of blame for not doing it sooner. Or maybe he only deserves blame for not hiring a defensive coordinator that doesn't need so much involvement from the head coach.

The biggest difference in this defense is the defensive line. They are dictating the trenches rather than it being dictated to them. Early last year, they tried to move Matthews around and it didn't work right away so they went away from it. Later they Went back to it and dedicated to it and it started working.

Sometimes it just takes the right combination of players at the right positions for them to play to their potential. Having Raji back at the Nose combined with Daniels is paying dividends and making Jones, Pennel, Guion all better around them.

Energy is contagious on defense and once it gets rolling they all start catching it.
