They are scouting for later rounds than just the 1st..

BTW.. some pretty talented players in that group.

Couple of notes on players interviewing in Mobile with the Packers.. I sense a theme.. we already had reports of them sniffing around the 3 USC backers..

UConn's Cody Brown DE/OLB (Tweener with some pass rush ability)
LSU Darry Beckwith ILB - rated around the 3rd best interior backers
Cal's Zack Follett - OLB - Rated highly
Clemson James Davis, RB
Georgia - Mohamed Massaquoi, WR ;)

Not that it means a whole lot, but the linebacker theme is catching my eye.

Hey Foster... maybe all my rants about the backers and their play this season weren't that far off.

I think we all agree that the O-line could be improved, but it's also worth noting that even with below average line play, the offense was still very successful. Tackle certainly needs to be addressed at some point in this draft with Clifton and Tauscher's age and contract status, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the first round. Would this line.....

Clifton - Spitz - Wells - Sitton - Colledge

.....be significantly worse than the makeshift lines we had last year?

I'm on board with taking one of the big OTs if they are still available, but I could make a good case for DT, DE, LB, and to some extent, CB too.

Agreed my friend agreed.. just reporting the things I hear..

Haven't heard them sniffing around any olineman.. the more I read and see of the Beatty kid out of UCONN, the more and more I hope he sneaks into the second round for us.. quality tackle.

Damn does UCONN have some talent hitting the NFL these days.

Interesting.. why the interest in backs with Grant,Wynn, Jackson and Lumpkin all aboard?

Smokescreen?

Green Bay Packers exec praises Navy running back Eric Kettani, but notes his military obligations could harm his draft stock.

DD.comment: Ever since we've been going to the Senior Bowl, we've noted only two fullbacks are selected -- one for the North and one for the South. So considering Tony Fiametta and Quinn Johnson are "true fullbacks", is it safe to assume N.F.L. scouts see Kettani as a power running back (hybrid FB/RB) after he ran a 4.59 at 243 pounds for them at Navy's junior day? Still, regardless of how well he does at the Senior Bowl and the Combine, he'll have a tough time being drafted higher than round 7 due to his military obligation, if recent history is a guide:

More notes on the Senior Bowl... two of note.

Risers and Falling....

Peria Jerry, DT, Mississippi: B.J. Raji is getting plenty of hype for his ability to collapse the pocket or penetrate on zone running plays, and rightly so. His play Wednesday will earn him praise from many media outlets. But Jerry's strength and quickness inside has not gone unnoticed by scouts, making it likely he'll be a mid-to-late first-round pick.

Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi: If anyone still doubted Oher's potential as a dominant NFL left tackle, Wednesday's practice quieted that nonsense. His athleticism is unmistakable and he plays with enough aggression to sustain his block through the whistle. He's the best player on the field

Hmmm.. 3-4 and Jerry eh.. say it isn't so.

Kirwin Notes...

Raji is a classic "three-technique" player who has first-step quickness to penetrate into the backfield and disrupt an offense. He's only 6-foot-1, but he's 334 pounds and is so powerful in the lower body that he looks unblockable at times. He's putting on the same kind of show we saw last year from Sedrick Ellis (now with the Saints), but Raji is 30 pounds heavier. There are some solid guards and centers here, but Raji is having no problem beating them in one-on-one drills and in the team period of practice.

For all the excitement surrounding Raji, there might even be more for Jerry. He, too, is a powerful one-gap penetrator, perfectly suited for a 4-3 defense -- but he's a little taller (6-2) and also has teams with 3-4 defenses interested. Jerry can penetrate a gap with ease, shed a blocker and make it look like the guy in front of him never found the weight room.

Yep, and I must say, he's looked very impressive in Senior Bowl practices. Ziggy Hood looked good on Monday too, but I haven't woken up early enough to watch the rest of his squad's practices this week.
