Waste of time, yes, the whole thing? No. Remember it's the Patriots that told everyone to "read the rules" even as they were violating them. No proof? It's not a court of law. They had plenty of evidence to know something was rotten in Denmark, but Brady covered up and lied, the whining of his agent notwithstanding.
As I said before, though, it isn't so much about the minor infraction of Brady but about the refusal to cooperate and the destroying of evidence. Yes, the phone mattered because they had asked for it. It makes that a big deal, because he violated the CBA with his refusal. I it were just the deflation, I say give him the fine and be done with it, (hammer the cheating franchise repeat offenders, though.) but the NFL HAS to enforce compliance or ALL of the rules go out the window.
