Wolf says Favre capable

Posted: Jan. 21, 2009

From the time he traded for Brett Favre, former Green Bay Packers general manager Ron Wolf has always praised the game of the quarterback, who will turn 40 on Oct. 10.

Wolf was asked by Fox Sports Radio on Tuesday if he thought "it's a good idea" if Favre returns to play next season.

"I feel very strongly that he is still one of the top quarterbacks in the game," Wolf said. "Whether he should play or not, I don't know. He had a rough last quarter of the season, but he's such a competitor that in itself might bring him back."

I'm a huge Favre fan, but I don't know if he really means this or if he's saying this because he's supposed to...

"Anybody would want Brett Favre to be their quarterback," Ryan said. "Not just me, but anybody. All that stuff we'll get into later. I haven't talked to Brett or anything yet. We'll see how he's feeling."

Now Wolf's opinion I'd rather hear because he's out of sports sort of and has nothing to lose or gain by saying anything.

I said in '07 that he's the 2nd best QB in the game. The drop off in '08 was huge, but then we found out he had an injured bicep, throwing arm, and that kind of changes things.

Sure, he's the strongest competitor in the game today, but is that enough to overcome physical limitations? The last quarter of the season showed it wasn't. He looked horrible. I watched all the Jets games and he was fabulous in the first 11 and horrible in the last five.

I wish there was more to that article. It was pretty short about Favre, then went right into something else.

you forgot this

Wolf was asked if the perception that Favre is set in his ways and will not change would work with a new team.

"I'm not so sure that perception is correct," Wolf said. "Will that work with a new team? I'm not sure it would work, no."

The problem of having him as your QB now that he is older is that he is more likely to get an injury like that and honestly what coach is going to be the one to bench Brett Favre when he isn't playing well due to an injury. Because we know he isn't going to take himself out.
