Like Texas would probably say, I hope we don't garage him if he's special. Accelerate his learning curve don't be passive and just plan to use him next season. Let him loose...maybe, not immediately, but actually plan to incorporate him if he truly is picking it up quickly which it does sound like he is and will. With our injury luck, the sooner they're ready to use him the better because he could be needed in the early portion of the season.
I hope the plan isn't to "redshirt" him as a WR/RB/Utility offensive player and just use him on returns if he shows great skill there.
The comparison you read is to Cordarrelle Patterson. I watched some YouTube clips and didn't quite see that but if he's that elusive with his strength he could be pretty unique for us. Cordarrelle Patterson is also stone stupid and Ty is not. A smart Patterson who gets it sounds pretty encouraging. Another one of those mid 4.5 guys. Had he been faster he would've been taken a lot higher and he likely would've been a 1st round guy after his JR year. Hope we get the guy who has the arrow pointing up not the one who was going down.
He might be like Finley, though...he has suspect hands. Doesn't concentrate all that well. I saw multiple drops of his on YouTube and these were not catches with any degree of difficulty...he was dropping routine opportunities with regularity.
Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."
