Cornerback Sam Shields: He went to the Pro Bowl last season, and he has some outstanding man-cover skills, but he gets beat too often for a player with a huge contract like Green Bay gave him last season. I think he bounces back some this season, but he was a tad off in 2014.



I think this is unfair to Sam, because he was hurt last year, yet played through it, because he knew we needed him. So to say he "got beat too often" isn't right. I also don't think he was ever "great." And I also think he will bounce back this year.

For me the most overrated player on our team is Clay Matthews. Let's see if he can prove he's still got it this year. AND let's see if he can stay healthy.

Matthews stands out as the Packers best defensive player - the main one teams need to game plan away from/the main one who if he is out, the team suffers. Blaming a player for getting injured is stupid; Not playing with nitpicky little stuff is different, but Matthews gave it a go even with the awkward soft cast. He definitely ain't a malingerer.

As for the article, I saw several weirdly wrongheaded names for most overrated: A.C. Green and Cordarrelle Patterson at the top of the list. Shields did backslide just slightly last season, but I sure wouldn't call him most overrated. The clear choice for that among Packers would be B.J. Raji - even with lowered expectations, he's way overrated.
