Williams said the decision between the Packers and Saints was put to a family vote.

It was the first time in my coaching career I've ever allowed the family to be a part of all this kind of stuff and our family was looking to get him a little further south, Williams said. That's basically what it came down to.

Williams said the Packers were looking to find a spot for him as well, but not every interested team was.

That was one of the reasons I backed off from Tennessee, Williams said of the Titans, who were also interested in him.

Williams said all nine teams with openings contacted him. And in his evaluation of each possible destination, the Packers ranked No. 1 when it came to young talent on their defense.

From the starters to the reserves, the depth of young talent there was really impressive, Williams said. That was a big mark in their corner.

I'm glad they both turned the Packers down. Dom Capers seems like a better coach to me anyway.

And I find it intriguing that Gregg Williams said what he did about the Packers. It seemed to me like he wanted to come to Green Bay but his family overruled him to the Saints.

Holy nepotism batman. Now I'm even happier we didn't get Williams. That's absurd.

Some good things in that article. I liked what Holliday & Williams said about Capers. Also good to hear Williams saying our D was the most talented of any team who had a DC opening.

I'm excited to see what Capers brings next season. Hopefully we can bring some serious heat, get even more turnovers....

Well, I cheerfully retract my belief that Williams was simply using the Packers as leverage to improve his prospects elsewhere. He named our defense No. 1 in terms of potential and desirability for coaching!

On the other hand . . . take that, all you people who are charging Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy with creating an atmosphere that deters viable candidates from coming to Green Bay. That calumny has obviously been shown to be a bald-faced lie. 🙂

Does he say that though...?

Re-reading that bit, it sounds more like Williams is implying the youth of the Packers talent was a huge point for them, they ranked (to Williams) # 1 in terms of having young talented players on D.

It's a subtle difference, having good young talent on D and having good defensive players. I think Williams alluded much more to the former than the latter.

Either way, it's interesting to hear Williams' POV. I can respect him for it, would've loved to have seen him but I can respect his decision for choosing the Saints.

Not just that, but the Packers will pay 2 million in 2010 to be their DC.

2 Million! Two!!

Ted is not a friggin cheap skate, and that proves it. Ted is the Head of Football Operations, which means he has (had) the right to set limits on the salary Capers was offered. Clearly Ted chose to be much more willing to shell out the big bucks, contrary to the claim of some Ted Thompson bashers.

For the love of all that is right in the world, certain people (the "TT doesn't spend money, at all" crowd) should realize the subtle difference between not spending money at all and spending money very, very (very) astutely.

There is a subtle difference in there.

Edited: added "very" ies.

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?

dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
