Joe Whitt referred to Sam Shields as a “quiet, quiet guy” today and noted that he's been stopping drills to explain techniques to the other defensive backs. Whitt had the following to say about Shields.

It sort of scared me. I was like, ‘Oh, this Wood here again?’ He stopped the drill and said, ‘Joe let me say something real quick. He said it with such confidence and told the guys what he was talking about, he’s consistently been doing that throughout the off-season. It’s been really good. And the things he’s been saying are so correct. I might’ve missed the balance in somebody’s stance or their first step. He sees it like ‘Joe, their first step was here.’ It’s been really, really good, the details he’s been helping the young guys with. Casey’s been doing it as well.

Heard Shields has moved over to the left side too.

This is great to hear. I'm excited to see the difference in Shields on the field this season. And the rooks!

This is great because it is 100% out of character for a guy like Shields. There is a good chance if Shields was with one of the other 31 teams this would not have happened. It is the culture that he has been immersed in that caused Shields to grow into a selfless leader.

And realize this; he's set to make 12M cap each of next 2 years...if he helps Goodson, Hayward, Randell, G-Wright, Rollins, Gunter become studs; he might have "leadershiped" his way out of his job.

We read the same stuff the other day about Joe Thomas helping Ryan, to his personal disadvantage.

It is not a coincidence; it is the culture MM has created and Ted Thompson feeds w/ his player acquisitions or NON-ACQUISITIONS!!!!!!!!!!!
