Green Bay — Andrew Quarless has never shied from the pressure, the spotlight vacated by his old pal Jermichael Finley at tight end. So entering his sixth season with the Green Bay Packers, he's staying confident.

Just what is A.Quarless' problems ?

Is he too slow ?
Is he a poor blocker ?
Is he just unlucky ?
Does he have poor eyesight ?
Are his hands too small to catch footballs ?
Has he just been lazy ?
Does Aaron Rodgers just not like him ?

This will be his 6th season, will it be his last in GB ?

Why has Andrew Quarless not become the Star that Ted Thompson must have thought he would be ?

WHAT IS THE ANSWER ?

Did I miss something about Quarless? Was he expected to become a superstar or even just a star?

He's one step above "just a guy" - which is about all he was ever projected to be, as I recall. What I like about him is he is a good size target - a possession receiver, which is what I want a TE to be. Not only did I not like Jermichael Finley for a lot of reasons unique to Finley, I also did not like the whole concept of a hybrid down-the-field/half TE, half WR type of player. If we want that extra deep receiver, we certainly have plenty of WRs to use 3 or 4 or 5 on the field at a time. For that matter, even Quarless and Rodgers both have been known to drift out and catch passes 30 or 35 yards down field in kinda a change of pace situation.

I'm glad we have the guy; Put me down as not wanting to get rid of him.

A Tight End that can block and function well as a Receiver is a rare commodity. Many can do one thing well , but not the other. Teams draft TE's from colleges thinking that they can develop the lacking skill. That is not always the end result. I say that if is not a good blocker or receiver in college, then all of the hope and best wishes will not change who a player is. Usually what you see is what you get.

Quarrels strikes me as the type that might end up playing a decade here and retiring a packer. He's not an elite tight end by any means, but the guy can block, has decent hands, and has the ability to find the hole in a defense and get open. Can't ask for much more from a (6th? round) Late draft pick. Guy has saved games for us with clutch catches multiple times. Count me in as someone who wants to see him stick around!

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

For the rest of you old timers, Quarless reminds me of Marvelous Marv Flemming back in the Lombardi Era.
