Aaron Rodgers already has one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL surrounding him, but the Green Bay Packers are looking to give him even more weapons. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, the Packers are interested in signing another wide receiver in free agency. Wes Welker was mentioned as one player to keep an eye on...

...the Packers would be wise to give him a chance on a cheap deal if he’s willing to accept a smaller deal with less playing time than he has grown accustomed to.

Green Bay could use another receiver like Welker who can make plays over the middle and in the short game. He would fit perfectly with Rodgers in the short slant offense that they like to run, and would be a very dangerous fourth wide receiver for any defense to cover. Ted Thompson hasn’t

Interesting that they're looking at another WR... but I guess if a player they like becomes cheap enough then maybe it could happen, but seems od with young guys already there and a talent draft full of WRs. Though the thought of Lacy in the backfield, Cobb and Welker in the slots and Nelson and Adams on the outside seems a bit exciting.

Of course TE Rodgers, WRs Abbrederis and Janis are already there... seems odd they'd be grabbing another weapons unless they're something we don't see of Welker is willing to sign pretty cheap.

This is a big if FA signing. IF we do not sign Cobb. I would be interested in seeing us sign Wes Welker on a short term deal. The guy does not have a ring and I wonder if he would sign at a cheaper price to play with Rodgers. The guy has had Tom and Peyton and didn't get his ring, why not give Aaron a try? I am not sure if he is fast as he used to be, but his hands are great and could be that clutch 3rd down reception guy.

The guy has a shot at the HoF and think a ring would help solidify his vote in.

Okay I got more how this rumor got started.

Ian Rapoport said the Packers are looking for a WR in FA and most likely not willing to spend a lot of money for them, so they'll have to be willing to be cheap cost. Welker is looked thought to be among as being one of the cheapest well known options, and has played with very talented QB in Brady and Manning and :cyclopsan ... the connection seems to be born.

So Packers and Welker may not of even talked from the sounds of it. Just reportedly looking for a cheap WR in FA for some reason...

Is anyone else worried what the fact Ted is looking for a FA WR might mean? Sure we let Boykin go, but you would assume the plan of having Abby and Janis fill his slot was the rationale behind it.

Just seems to be crowding at the WR position if Welker comes in.

We'd have the whitest WR group since the colour barrier got lifted in Football.

Sound it sounds like Welker is strongly thinking about possibility retiring anyways... but my guess is he secretly (or not so secretly) wants to get 10,000 NFL career yards (or maybe even 1,000 catches).

Right now Welker has 890 catches for 9,822 yards and 50 TDs.

But like I said, this seems to all be another reportedly the Packers want a cheap WR in FA... and Welker could be cheap and might want to play with a top QB (which don't all WRs? ... but because he's played with two other top QBs they think he wants it more than the others?).

But if it is true, then yes it makes me wonder if Abbrederis is going to be healthy or not and if they think Janis can make the growth in all the little things to match his great physical potential.

Though I've also wonder if it might be a 6th WRs since they haven't been able to upgrade their TE position (yet).

BUT WR coach Alex Van Pelt did get to watch Welker for two games a year for four years... as he was with the Bills for four years watching Welker with the Dolphins and Patriots and got to see what he could do. So maybe he likes Welker?

Interesting if they'd want Welker over Jennings.

I do like the idea of carrying 6 WRs and one less TE. Then again I was also hoping for Maxx Williams if he was there to take him.

I get to watch the Bills games because of television deals in Ontario and have always been a huge Welker fan hence the post a month back. I would hope that AVP sees how Welker could make us even better while helping bring along Adams, Abby and Janis in their development.

I think your previous post on stats have to figure in. Why not sign a cheaper deal with the best QB out there to help your stats along. I do think he can be a HoFer. I am not sure what his percentage chance would be now. Add another 5 more TDs and a 500 more yards and his chances get better. I wonder if he is looking for a 2 year deal?

Zero2Cool (2h) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (2h) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (2h) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (2h) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (2h) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (2h) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (2h) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (2h) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (2h) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (2h) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (2h) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (3h) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
Zero2Cool (3h) : I literally just said it.
packerfanoutwest (3h) : show us a scenario where Pack don't get in? bet you can't
Zero2Cool (3h) : Falcons, Buccaneers would need to win final two games.
Zero2Cool (3h) : Yes, if they win one of three, they are lock. If they lose out, they can be eliminated.
packerfanoutwest (3h) : as I just said,,gtheyh are in no matter what
Zero2Cool (3h) : Packers should get in. I just hope it's not 7th seed. Feels dirty.
packerfanoutwest (3h) : If packers lose out, no matter what, they are in
packerfanoutwest (3h) : both teams can not male the playoffs....falcon hold the tie breaker
packerfanoutwest (3h) : if bucs win out they win their division
beast (3h) : Fine, Buccaneers and Falcons can get ahead of us
packerfanoutwest (3h) : falcons are already ahead of us
beast (3h) : Packers will get in
beast (3h) : If Packers lose the rest of their games and Falcons win the rest of theirs, they could pass us... but not gonna happen
packerfanoutwest (3h) : they still are in the playoffs
packerfanoutwest (3h) : If Packers lose the remaining games,,,,at 10-7
Zero2Cool (5h) : We can say it. We don't play.
Mucky Tundra (6h) : But to say they are in is looking past the Saints
Mucky Tundra (6h) : That said, their odds are very favorable with a >99% chance of making the playoffs entering this week's games
Mucky Tundra (6h) : Packers are not in and have not clinched a playoff spot.
buckeyepackfan (7h) : Packers are in, they need to keep winning to improve their seed#.
Mucky Tundra (16h) : Getting help would have been nice, but helping ourselves should always be the plan
beast (16h) : Too bad Seahawks couldn't beat Vikings
bboystyle (17h) : We just need to win Monday night and were in
Mucky Tundra (20h) : Or ties, but let's be real here
Mucky Tundra (20h) : Other scenario was Falcons+Rams losses
Mucky Tundra (20h) : Needed a Falcons loss for a Seahawk loss to clinch
buckeyepackfan (20h) : Am I wring in saying if Tge Vikings beat The Seahawks, The Packers clinch?
Mucky Tundra (21-Dec) : Agreed; you stinks
Zero2Cool (21-Dec) : I'm not beating anyone. I stinks.
Mucky Tundra (21-Dec) : rough injury for tank dell. guy can't catch abreak
