Whoa, that is something earth shattering isn't it? Let me quickly explain me sticking my neck out so far here. Former Ted Thompson disciple, John Schneider has just 16 players with a first round grade and it's easy to surmise Thompson in that same ball park. I could see the Packers trading back 5-10 spots while adding a 3rd rounder in the process at least.

I was expecting a news article about this. Although I'm sure I'd be annoyed at the time as we waited all day (and months) for a pick, I've hear of only 2ish 1st round grades as well and the rational level headed part of me wouldn't be upset by this.

I get Ted Thompson does a great job in the second and third round, but if we are looking at trying to find a starter at ILB and/or CB, do you trust it out of a 2nd round pick?

It could mean we trade up for once if there is someone on his board dropping to the point where the cost isn't too high.

I recognize increasing our odds by accumulating picks, but it seems wasteful at times to draft players you can't keep on your roster and other teams pluck from your practice squad or guys you cut.

The need to possibly address CB and ILB starters makes this a bit of a challenge.

The more draft picks you have, the more chances you have to succeed on one or more of them.

If you're sitting at 30th overall and you have several guys you like that could be had in the top of round two, you absolutely trade back 5, 10 or so spots and still get one of the guys you want while adding another selection. Why? Because you never know if that 6th rounder will be Tom Brady or that 7th rounder will be Donald Driver.

I think the bigger question is, why would wouldn't you trade back if you can still get someone you want while adding more picks?

Check this out for example. The 2013 Draft, the Packers had the 55th overall selection and traded back 6 spots and took Eddie Lacy while adding the 173rd overall selection, a sixth-round selection. They still got their guy and added a pick in the process. Interesting to note that the Packers packaged that 173rd (and the 146th overall) pick to move up to 125th overall to select RB Johnathan Franklin.

I'm apologize in advance for acknowledging I'm a big Vic Ketchman guy and one of his sayings is to go BPA, OR trade to where your player needs meets the value.

If this draft does in fact have that few 1st round grades, yes, by all means trade to where the need/quality/value all meet. If you can accumulate more picks in the process, awesome.

Virtually all of the "legion of boom" were late rounders. We already discussed the Packers 2nd and mid-round successes.
