we can possibly get a pretty good, quick, receiver in the 2nd round.

But we wouldn't get a Percy Harvin. He's one of the most intriguing candidates to come out in years. I would take him over Crabtree in an instant.

Harvin may be a nice NFL player, but at what position? RB?...too light! Wr? Sure, but not a Crabtree talent.

I don't think he has the potential that Crabtree has mainly because of size. I would view him as a faster more agile Wes Welker type player. Especially in the NFL.

What's your objection to having a Wes Welker on our offense?

We have much bigger needs then Percy. Even though it would be nice to have him, I wouldnt want to spend an early pick(1st or 2nd round) on a player that is gonna be buried on the depth chart. The pick would be put to much better use on an OL, DL, or even a CB possibly.

This being said, I wouldn't be calling for Ted's head if we did pick him 😉

Michael Crabtree is the best player in the draft IMO. He's Larry Fitzgerald in my opinion. He does everything well, but he'll probably run a 4.64 or whatever and some teams might turn their heads for a moment until they see him run routes, catch the ball, and show off is TO like strength.

Percy is probably a mid to late first rounder. I think the 3rd receiver off the board behind Crabtree and Jeremy Maclin. He's injury prone and I don't see room for him on this roster. He's not going to come in and unseat the fab four the Packers have right now. He'd be a selection as a kick and punt returner for the Packers.

I think a team like Baltimore would do well taking Harvin, but the Packers a lot more needs.

I think he's a project too. Wouldn't shock me that it takes him at least a year, maybe two to develop into that Wes Welker like player.

Why? Receiver is like the last position we need to look at and RB (though certainly not the greatest) is not the top of the list either

I disagree. I think our depth at receiver is largely illusory. Let's look at the numbers.

Aaron Rodgers threw for 4,038 yards this season, of which 1,292 yards (32.0%) and 9 TDs (32.1%) went to Greg Jennings, while 1,012 yards (25.1%) and 5 TDs (17.9%) went to Donald Driver. In other words, 57.1% of Rodgers' passing yards and 50% of his TD passes went to just two receivers. Had either of these players gone down with injury, the Packers' offensive output would have plummeted (remember, James Jones was injured almost the entire year).

Bear in mind, Ruvell Martin only contributed 149 yards and 1 TD, with James Jones chipping in just 274 yards and 1 TD. We had the luxury of not needing these two players much this year (largely because Jordy Nelson stepped up), but a single injury to the Big Two would have changed everything.

Chances are Martin will be cut in the off-season, and we have no idea how stable Jones' knee will be next season. Drafting another dynamic receiver cannot possibly be considered a bad idea, especially if we shore up some of our line needs in free agency.

It is hard to say the production would have dropped. Look at the past. Since Sharpe went down, the team has had WR step up. Brooks, Freeman, Fergy,Driver and on. WR has been the most stable part of the Packers O for 20 years.

Jennings and Driver are #1 and #2. So of course there numbers are going to be higher. But if one of them go down, I would expect that the catches would be spread around. More to the TE, or Nelson/Martin/Jones or who ever. Rodgers has no problem throwing to anybody. And he has shown that.

There may be a little drop off, but not as dramatic as you seem to think.

You raise a good point, of course, but consider the fact that Jones was only credited with playing in 10 games  this season, and it's questionable how many of those games he could have actually made a significant impact had be been forced to contribute. Obviously, it's all speculation at this point. But I think it's safe to say only one or two injuries separate the Packers from having a great receiving corps and having a sub-par receiving corps. It couldn't hurt to have another quality talent competing for the position.

That I can agree with. I was actually surprised the Martin was back this year. I really don't expect him back for 09 either.

What is going to suck, if another WR is drafted and has success. The team is going to go through non stop WR needing contracts. Jennings after 09, Driver and Jones 2010, Nelson 2011, and then WR X would be up after 2012. 5 contracts for WR in 4 years. Yikes.
