I'm about to make myself very unpopular on this board. I'm going to come right out and say I hope the Packers draft Percy Harvin (RB/WR - Florida), assuming he declares for the draft, of course.

I was blown away by this young man's level of play in the BCS championship game -- 9 carries for 122 yards and a touchdown plus 5 receptions for 49 yards -- on a sprained ankle, no less. He ran wild on two plays, busting one for 45 yards and another for 52 yards.

A top-ranked prospect out of high school, Harvin set five state track records, winning five gold medals at the state finals in 2005: long jump, triple jump, 100 meters, 200 meters and 400-meter relay. According to one report I heard, he tied the Junior record for the 100-meter dash at 10.1 seconds (roughly equivalent to a mind-boggling 4.04 in the 40!). He did have some character issues while in high school, but by all accounts has been a stellar performer in college.

A dual threat at running back and receiver in college, Harvin also lined up at quarterback several times in the BCS championship game against Ohio State his freshman year, and still takes occasional direct snaps.

His college career stats (24 starts):

Receiving: 133 receptions for 1,930 yards (14.5 ypc!) and 13 TDs.

Rushing: 194 attempts for 1,851 yards (9.5 ypa!) and 19 TDs.

Totals: 327 touches for 3781 yards (11.6 ypt!) and 32 TDs (1.3 TDs/game).

If Green Bay drafted Harvin, they could cut Ruvell Martin and still be, without question, the most feared receiving corps in the league.

I know our primary needs are on the offensive and defensive lines this year, but if we could give Aaron Rodgers a target like this, I don't know how we could resist. UserPostedImage

Some moments, he's shades of Driver.

Other moments he's shades of Jennings.

Still, at some moments he's shades of Jordy Nelson.

Unreal.

His change of direction ability seems outstanding.

Does he return kicks?

Ted has drafted a WR every year he has been a GM with the Pack... I'm just sayin'.

I wouldn't be upset if we were to draft him, but we have WAY bigger needs and we can possibly get a pretty good, quick, receiver in the 2nd round.

But we wouldn't get a Percy Harvin. He's one of the most intriguing candidates to come out in years. I would take him over Crabtree in an instant.

We can always hope for the Eagles to have someone on their board that they desperatly want at 9, giving us two 1st rounders. Although that's a real longshot.

I think we're not in position to draft this guy atm, or he'll have to fall way back to 2nd round, Nr. 9. Then I see Ted Thompson taking him, just because he always picks the best player available.

I have to wonder how highly the scouts have him rated. He hasn't seemed to generate much buzz that I can see. I wonder if it's because he only started 24 games in 3 seasons, or if it's because he hasn't officially declared for the draft. (He has filed his packet with the NFL Draft Advisory Committee.) If Tim Tebow elects to return to Florida for a final season, I can see Harvin staying on for another run at a national championship.

What I'm saying is that should he come out this year, it's conceivable he might fall to the 2nd round.

If I'm not mistaken, Ted has taken a WR on day 1 every year he has been GM.

Terrance Murphy, Greg Jennings, James Jones (back when day 1 included round 3), and Jordy Nelson.

3 of the 4 picks have been in the second round. If Harvin is the Best Player Available, I honestly don't doubt Ted would go get him.

He'll be back in School next year along with Tebow.

Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
wpr (22-Jan) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (22-Jan) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
