This forum is getting a little stale. I know it is the off season.

However, I personally love this forum and find some good reads from posters who post articles. Heretofore, I thought I would post an article from the past. Perhaps one of you will enjoy reading this as much as I did today.

When I re read this.... It brought me back, but also let me reflect on what has transpired since this article was penned.

Read it and let the memories, anger, joy, frustration, and passion for NEXT YEAR flow through your off season veins...

did not attend a news conference announcing his hiring and was unavailable for comment.

Said Wolf: "That's a great hire. He's the right man for the job."

"When I would talk to people around the league, they would say there's not a lot of guys who can do this. Other people told me he (Thompson) was a real comer in this league and that they felt he would end up somewhere else."

Thompson's strength, according to Harlan, is his draft expertise. It is well known in league circles that Thompson disdains free agency and prefers to build a team through the draft.

Its not like we didn't know exactly what we were getting with the man huh.

good article RP as usual. nice to look back, and realize that he is doing exactly what we brought him here to do. thanks.

Keeping with that RP

I just had similar"debates" about Ted and Seattle SB team

http://www2.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=389230

"Ron Wolf said he was the one that built that Seattle team," Harlan said."

Mike Holmgren, then the coach and general manager in Seattle, lured Thompson away from the Packers in January 2000.

His title was vice president of football operations, and with rare exception in the drafts from 2000 through 2004 the selections were made by Thompson, according to Seahawks vice president Mike Reinfeldt.

Trading down six times and never once trading up, Thompson ended up with 46 choices in the five drafts, 12 more than the norm.

Of those 46 players, three have made the Pro Bowl, 33 started at least one game, 19 are on the current 53-man roster (two are in reserve categories) and all but 4 played in at least one game.

2000 (Nine picks, three starters)

2001 (11 picks, 4 starters)

2002 (10 picks, one starter)

2003 (Nine picks, two starters)

2004 (Seven picks, three starters)

I count 13 starters on the SB team came from Ted

Interesting to note LT that Seattle seems to have seems to have taken a risk on some players with character issues while Ted was there.

That might just be because whoever had final say was willing to take a risk on players who were very talented but troubled.

I can't recall any of Ted's problems having any real character issues. Closest that comes to mind is Giacomini flipping off fans in college.

Just an interesting observation.

I remember Mike Sherman's press conference after he was stripped of GM duties. Boy, was he pissed. I thought from the beginning that Sherman should've been fired outright, rather than going with the awkward arrangement in 2005, with Thompson coming in as Sherman's boss. It was a wasted season.

Great read, I'll be very sad if they get rid of T.T. when contract's up.

So far, I have been mostly happy with Thompson. The only real thing that is looking bad is Harrell so far. And he can still turn it around.

But I have to say that Ted Thompson needs to start being a little more active in FA. I see the draft picks to get the team to a certain level. But at some point, and I think the Packers are there, the draft will only keep the team at that same level, and not improve. With the lose of players due to age, FA, injuries or what ever. The draft is great for keeping that young depth back there, but to continue to advance, some FA need to be brought in.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!
