From what I've been reading, Gregg Williams, highly touted defensive guru may have emerged into a dead heat with Nolan to be the Packers next defensive coordinator.
He is highly sought after so money may be the deciding factor as to where he goes.

The Packers have the money to be in the hunt and I would prefer him over Nolan.
Call me crazy but I just don't have a good "gut feeling" about Nolan.

Honestly, I'm just going to let things play out now.

I'm not sure what MM is planning, considering there have been so many rumours emerging.

I'm with you, man.

It's hard to judge, for me - on the one hand, Williams has a great resume, but then again it's not like Jacksonville's D set the world on fire last year.

I guess at least both guys seem like an upgrade over Sanders - so there's that.

I don't want the decision to be rushed, but I sure will feel better when I know who we're working with.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more talk about Gregg Williams. Seems to me like he is at least as good a candidate for DC as Nolan. Where have you heard that Williams may be in a dead heat with Nolan?

there are red-flags about most candidates. fact of the matter is, if you want a "big name" coach, and not just some "up and comer", the chances are that the big name coach has been fired at some time or another. Crennel, Williams, Nolan... all are unemployed right now, but yet those are the "big name" candidates. i think you have to look at a coach's entire body of work rather than one season's work. Parity is the name of the game. No team, and no coach, wins them all.

No, though Otto Graham (admittedly a player, not a coach) came pretty damn close. In 11 seasons as a professional athlete, Otto Graham's teams made the championship all eleven years, winning eight titles! As a quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, he won four consecutive AAFC titles, then when the Browns moved to the NFL, they played in six consecutive NFL championships, winning three. He even won an NBA championship in his single season with the Rochester Royals (now the Sacramento Kings)!

That is a mind-numbing level of success not likely ever to be equaled.
