GREEN BAY, Wis. -- They call it "Zebra" -- the Green Bay Packers' offensive package that includes three receivers plus a tight end and a running back -- and it's just one of a multitude of personnel groups in Mike McCarthy's playbook.

But the way the coach has called plays this season, you might think it's one of the only ones.

With McCarthy committed to running a no-huddle or muddle-huddle offense this season, it has changed the Packers from an offense that once threw myriad formations at an opponent to one that has relied almost exclusively on one package for the majority of its plays.

This is a great area of debate and I like it.

I tend to think that the "new plan" of running a super-fast no-huddle offense is a complete disaster.
I noticed we only run a few plays from the same formation and that defenses just sit in cover-2 and then it all depends on Jordy vs coverage or Lacy and the OL vs the DL.

I don't like it at all.

I remember when we used to go from I-formation to 3WRs then 2TEs set and then 5WRs. The zillion different formations and different plays were very very difficult to defend.

Can Mike McCarthy get back to what worked this season? Next season?

I'd rather see 60 plays of quantity execution than 80 plays of 'what the hell was that?'.

This is not good and once Mike McCarthy locks on to a train of thought ain't nothin gonna change his mind.

This is EXACTLY whats been bothering me the most this season, run the no huddle when you want to keep them off balance but not for an entire game. The offense looks so rushed and disorganized which is why I think Aaron is focusing on Jordy so much. There's no harm in eating away at the clock and controlling TOP. Another thing that's been bothering me is that it seems we are running to set up the pass but I think it should be Passing to set up the run.

But there is something to be said for "tempo" in and of itself. Football isn't all just knowing where you're x's and o's go. You've gotta feel it. You BREAK! Then your guys march up to the LoS together and they get in their stances. They did that under Holmgren. Mike's not big on that. They call the play and then they all just sort of wander up to the line and take their places.

Sometimes I think Mike's too much into being the thinking man's coach. That's why I like it when he goes with his gut at times, like when he says shit like WE'RE NOBODY'S UNDERDOG. You'll note they always play when after he gets like that.

Being smart and drawing up the X's and O's and being clever is important. But so is feeling it.

JUST DO IT!
