Adam Schefter reports that Joe Whitt Jr. was promoted to secondary coach of the Packers. He takes over for Kurt Schottenheimer. Don't have the link for it in writing yet, but it was reported (NFLN).

Interesting, considering no new DC has been officially hired.

I'm leaning towards Moss more so than Nolan now after hearing this.

A little bit of info on Whitt Jr. courtesy Packers.com coaches bio:

... the 30-year-old Whitt comes to Green Bay after one year with the Atlanta Falcons as assistant defensive backs coach. He coached the previous five years in the college ranks, beginning with the 2002 season as wide receivers coach at The Citadel, followed by a four-year stint as cornerbacks coach and recruiting coordinator at Louisville.

(As a defensive quality control assistant) Whitt's duties include breaking down opponent game film and analyzing their offensive tendencies. He also provides assistance with the defensive backs and special teams.

Last season in Atlanta, Whitt worked alongside veteran coach and former Packers defensive coordinator Emmitt Thomas in tutoring the Falcons' defensive backs.

Now that just doesn't make any sense. We don't even have a DC yet.

Or Adam Schefter finally decided to suck. I don't know.

Whitt Jr. survives coaching cuts in Green Bay

Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter | Tags: Green Bay Packers, Joe Whitt Jr.

Although most of the Packers defensive staff was fired Monday, Joe Whitt Jr., who was the defensive quality control coach, was promoted to secondary coach.

If he's really responsible for how the secondary played this year, it makes sense he was promoted. It also makes a whole lot more sense that Shottenheimer was fired in that case.

I think the only thing that makes sense is that we already do have a new DC, and that he's OK'ed Whitt for the job.
