I agree, RP -- definitely a gutsy move. Then again, McCarthy probably realizes that he's got one season to turn this around or his neck'll be in that noose either way.

But still, wiping out the coaches on one side of the ball is nad-ly, for sure. I'm assuming they're trying to demonstrate how far they're willing to go to fix that side of the ball, and I do hope it works.

Personally I think it is gutsy. There is no doubt that if this does not work, Mike M. is putting his head coaching neck in the noose.

RP - It already is. He will be gone if we have another losing season. The NFL isn't very tolerant of losing (well, except if you're the Lions and your patience for losing is quite large).

I think the wipe out was more a desperate act. We as fans don't know how close MM was to being fired. Look at jsonline - it gave the Coaching staff a D-. That's not acceptable and heads had to roll. MM made sure it wasn't his.

My honest opinion is that MM and Ted Thompson feel pressure after this year and know that with another bad year both could be gone. With this move they are looking for a fix and have a built in excuse if we happen to struggle next year. The youngest team excuse won't work anymore. I liked the cleaning house and hopefully we bring in a big name DC ( i want either one of the Ryan boys) and if we get them i see us going after a suggs or peppers in free agency. So i think what DC comes in will tell a little bit about our Free Agency activity.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I think everyone is overreacting. The new DC will and should be allowed to choose HIS own coaches. Maybe a few of these guys will be hired back, but let's wait and see who gets the top job first.

Keeping certain guys and asking the new DC to fit how they do things into his plan when he's the one ultimately responsible for the overall success of the defense is stupid.

Another thing about McCarthy pulling the trigger. I am not surprised in the least that he went here and to the extent he has. You don't become a HC without an almost unreal competitive nature about you. I know. My father was a HC for 30 years in college and I NEVER saw a guy so competitive in my life. I think I'm competitive in nature and I'm sure most of you here feel that way too. Forget it. We are not on the same planet with these guys.

What I like about McCarthy is he puts 100% of his energy in positive motion and backs his guys to the nth degree. Now some will say "ah, he's to loyal, he won't see the forest for the trees. That my friends is BULL. He gives his guys ever opportunity to make what they do work and backs them all the way but NEVER mistake this for rose colored glasses.

If there is one thing I learned in all these years being around a Head Football Coach as much as I have been it's this:

WEAR YOUR BIG BOY SHOES AND BE READY TO PLAY WITH THE BIG BOYS.

There just aint no gray area here. They make no excuses and they hold no prisoners.

I would have been much more surprised had McCarthy NOT done what he did putting them all on the road. They had a reasonable amount of time and didn't get it done. End of story.

Ok just cuz its a new year LT doesn't mean you have to keep agreeing with me lol. Just giving you shit i think we could be very active in FA and it will all be from the heat Ted Thompson feels. The fans and board i don't think will accept him not doing anything.

No i am being honest..

I would expect him to do as he always has done..

but I am hearing things that this year he is being felt pressured ( I assume Mark M ) to use FA this year....as getting draft players to be very productive in their 1st year wont work...

also hearing that if they make a huge improvement in 2009, Ted is gone

Mucky Tundra (7h) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8h) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8h) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
