OH MY!!!!! Why was he NOT a first round pick? That was sheer madness and folly by every single GM for 6+ rounds.

Maybe, Jordy would've gone in the 1st? K-State vs. Saginaw State. D1 vs. DII... I do recall the twitter post from Charles Johnson when Brown was taken by the Cards in the 3rd that Janis was the better WR.

Janis being from a DII school and white wasn't doing him any favors.

You tell me why he was drafted in the 7th round?

His measurables put him in rare air better than high 1st rounders.

The only white guy I can recall who played WR and went in Round 1, in the modern era, was Matt Jones... the converted QB from Arkansas who was one of those late risers due to his measurables.

Janis is a white dude from some no name D2 school...that did him no favors, but I would like your thoughts on why a guy with his athleticism lasted until the 7th like a Donald Driver.

Very little. DII players don't go in the first round mainly because they don't have a lot of competition in their games the numbers they put up are often skewed but teams know this and do a pretty good job in their evaluation process. A quick glance  showed there are 64 players form DII schools in the NFL. I assume this was for 2013. 3 with GB.

AS to why DD didn't go until the 7th I have no idea. You will have to speak to every one of the GMs who were involved in that draft. No matter what they say I am sure it was because of the color of his skin too. Or maybe he had really bad breath.

He had a chance to show that he was better than a DII player and he ended up looking pretty mediocre.

Again, he looked decent at the Combine, but didn't show anything to really stand out.

Couple that with his smallish hands, not-too-great route running, not using his 6'3, 220 body to its full physical potential and some drops here and there in college and you get yourself a third day selection with upside.

That he fell to the seventh round, rather than getting picked up somewhere in the 5th, feels more like a good steal for us than other teams skipping on him because he's white.

There are a lot of things that factor into when a player is drafted when they are. I feel (just an opinion) a lot of is hype from whomever be it the college coaches or even their own scouting department. The Raiders are the only team I've seen draft players more on their measurables than their football talent. Scouts also factor in the competition they faced. I've read many times where general managers have said they care quite a lot about if the player feels the game is "too big" for them. Most recently, Ted Thompson said this. If the game is "too big" for you, then it doesn't matter if you're faster than the wind because when it comes down to it, you will buckle.

Why Donald Driver lasted so late in the draft is quite simple, it's because he is white and was an Olympic talent high jumper.

The inquiry of why player X lasted until round Y is about as worthwhile as chasing ones tail. Reason I say this because if you want all those 7 rounders picked earlier, guess what, that means someone else is going to take their place and we're right back where we started.

Does the player fit your scheme?
Does the player appear to be coachable?
Does the player have weaknesses that are possible to trained out of them?
Does the player have a high ceiling?

I could go on and on, but I feel you get the drift.
