Unless Aaron Rodgers knows Jermichael is at no further risk than any other play, he is being quite irresponsible with this statement.

Jermichael Finley's football future remains cloudy, but the man who used to throw him passes hopes he'll be back in Green Bay. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers assumed the starting role in 2008, the same year that Finley joined the team, and Finley has 223 receptions for 2,785 yards and 20 touchdowns for Green Bay since then....

This league is better with Jermichael in it and this team is better with him in it. I have had a couple of conversations with him; he looks incredible. If you follow him on Twitter, he looks pretty amazing, and he’s worked his tail off. For him, it’s a matter of getting cleared.

I really liked his demeanor last year (pre injury) - I wasnt completely sold on him before. I wish we'd give him another shot.

As for the Packers being better, without a doubt they would be better with Finley and I suppose anything that makes a team better makes for a better league.

I see nothing wrong with what Rodgers said.

I agree. If there is anything irresponsible about it, then I don't know what that is. I guess it is whatever the media reads into it. They like to stir shit up. Whether you agree with his opinion or not, I don't see anything beyond that to consider.

Rodgers is putting pressure on Finley to play again. Not cool. Sure hope he's been cleared of being at further risk than anyone else.

I don't think anyone is putting more pressure on finley than he is himself. He wants to play.

I don't know about irresponsible, and I don't see how it could be putting pressure on Finley, as it apparently isn't his decision.

Myself, I don't much care about risk to Finley. ANY NFL player is well-paid to take that risk of his body, even for permanent damage. To me, it's all about THE TEAM. Far be it from me to say Aaron Rodgers is wrong about what is good for the team - which is what I think he is talking about, but I do tend to disagree with him. If Finley had never been hurt, I would have opposed paying what it would cost to keep him. Assuming it would cost almost as much now - maybe with some protection in terms of games played/not getting reinjured or whatever, but still big money if he played a full season, I think the Packers are better off without him.

The bottom line to me is we have as many as six decent or hopefully way better than decent TEs now who we probably can't keep all of. Using a roster spot for Finley would mean getting rid of another of those.

I HOPE Rodgers is just saying the obligatory "we hope he comes back" stuff about a potentially continuing teammate, nothing more meaningful than that.

If Finley had said for sure that he was retiring Rodgers would have said something to the affect that "we have confidence in the guys we have and we will move on and we all wish him the very best" Its not like he would say "You can't quit we need you"
