Don Barclay starting over T.J. Lang

How do you feel about Barclay taking Lang's starting spot at RG? Coach Street says he views him as a starter.

Heard it looked like Lang tweaked something in one of his legs and was held out as a precaution.

Yep. This one doesn't sound too bad. Coach said it was his shoulder. I think he has had some history with that like Sitton and his back.

He wasn't starting "over" him he was starting instead of him. Otherwise Lang would have been playing with the 2s but he wasn't he was doing no contact.

I think our run game would benefit by Barclay instead of Lang. I'm unsure how Barclay would be in pass protection from the inside...he wasn't very good outside at T.

I've never been very high on TJ Lang...an okay guard at best. There's a reason we get mauled by Detroit up front.

I'm definitely higher on Lang than you. I agree on your with respect to possibly improvement in the run game. Barclay is has been a proven run blocker so far, but has been up and down in pass pro. Incidentally, last year in Detroit was one of Sitton's worst games as a pro. No one on the line did a very good job, but also Flynn was exposed big time in that game in particular.

Barclay seems like a tough guy... Linsley sounds like he's a tough guy also. I'm not sure Tretter is going to be an improvement up front for us especially vs. Detroit. Linsley and Barclay give us a much better chance, imo.

I'm not anti TJ Lang, I just don't think he's very good...he's a decent NFL guard. Barclay is encouraging as an inside guy.
