Steelers are desperate. They'd clear Sterling Sharpe if they thought it'd help a tad.

From the moment agent Blake Baratz characterized tight end Jermichael Finley as facing what amounts to a choice between taking Door No. 1 and a $10 million no-tax disability policy or Door No. 2 and returning to football for whatever pre-tax salaries and bonuses he can muster, it all seemed to be a little too...

In this case, Finley apparently has received multiple offers from the Steelers, whose team doctor performed the spinal fusion surgery on Finley and cleared him to play earlier this year.

“Pittsburgh have showed me a couple deals, but we all know the money ain’t what it’s supposed to be,” Finley recently told USA Today.

I had to laugh at this one a little. Pittsburgh gave him a low offer? You don't say? Not Pittsburgh. 🙂

Finley has been awfully Packers sweet here lately. You have to smile knowing he knows the Packers are the one team that really values (overvalues) him. If he could get nearly 8 million out of them last year, he's got to think Green Bay is the best possible place to get the money he's seeking.

As tight lipped as the Packers org is, I'm now thinking Finley has been cleared by our doctors, also...but he has a gag order on that as they try and figure out how much to pay him with Randall and Jordy looming. Finley's old money was allocated to Julius.

If Finley truly is cleared, will the Packers pay him as he desires?

Finley would have to take an incentive laden deal on production and duration. I just don't want to watch the guy be gurneyed off the field again.

I don't know how much money Finley thinks he's going to get. He's only had 2 full seasons in his career and they didn't exactly live up to expectations. Coming off such a serious injury he's not going to get a long term deal nor will he get the 7m average he got 2 years ago. He's going to have to either retire or deal with a low 1 year prove it deal most likely.

This is total conspiracy type stuff but I wouldn't discount this possibility...

I think most NFL observers look at the Packer TE situation as disastrous. Finley is still out there cleared by a Steelers doctor meaning he may not be able to cash his policy because he has been cleared to play and received an offer according to Jermichael himself.

It would make sense that Finley and his camp believe the Packers have nothing at TE so they feel they can extort a better offer from us because of this.

So, what do the Packers do? All this effusive praise is released to the media on Richard Rodgers. Aaron and MM gushing about him. That is the one guy that Jermichael would have no personal knowledge about as to his skill level. So, now we hear stories liKe Richard Rodgers may start giving the impression we're okay at TE when that may be the furthest from the truth, all to get Finley to the idea we're good without him and moving on unless he takes next to nothing from us financially.

This team loves Finley. It is funny the door has not been shut and not only not shut but it seems the Packers would love to have him back unlike many others they say similar door not being shut things about. It's gotta be a money issue...Finley wants a bunch because he feels he's fine and ready to roll and every other NFL team cautious.

He may be back after all...I now believe he will more than I have at any other point in this process.

I am still looking forward to 1 L.A.F.

It's time to move on and to bring in the young crop of tight ends. I don't mean this as a slight towards Jermichael in any way but like others, I would just rather not see him get taken off the field on a stretcher again, possibly amounting to an even worse injury he suffered this past season. The struggle the Packers *might* endure at tight end this season are worth not seeing this possibly happen.

Sign him and trade him for Jimmy Graham. Heck, throw in Lyelra as well if that is what it takes.

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.

dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.

Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'
Mucky Tundra (8-Apr) : *CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP*
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : WR who said he'd break Xavier Worthy 40 time...and ran slower than you
