I will expand a little bit more on my pick for Bates. He had a good defense when he was the DC of the Dolphins, when he left their D went down hill. He came to a packer defense that wasn't the greatest and you could see the difference in that defense as soon as he got there. I could see the difference in training camp when I would watch. I thought he squeezed the most out of his players. Who knows how he would do as a HC, he might be able to get the most out of ALL the players. And he may not. But that goes for any DC or OC that you want to bring in. And he lives in Wisconsin. Not that, that matters...Just ironic.

I do remember Bates doing a pretty good job as DC. However, there was some reasons which escape me now, which suggested that he may not have been the best option to be coach at the time. I believe he was somewhat upset at not getting the job and hence left for eleswhere. I don't know if he'd be willing to coach in GB unless it was as a head coach.

Well, one thing that can't escape anyone's memory is the fact about 15 teams have shifted gears at HC and he doesn't get a sniff. Let's put it this way. If McCarthy's cut loose another team would have him signed by tomorrow and you know who still WON'T have a HC position? Bates.

I think the whole topic is quite funny myself. A new coach? I hope people here are kidding. That means new Assistant coaches and schemes and everything else.

A new coach now sets this team back at least three years if you consider the time needed to get personnel in here that will fit with a new coaches philosophy.

We were a hair off beating some of the best teams in the league and had a frustrating year so the solution is to can the whole movement and start all over. Beautiful. Dumb, but beautiful.

Must be a lot of blonde lovers here.

Warhawk this is for you, I didn't want to make this a big long post by quoting everything. You said that bringing in a new head coach would bring in new assistants and new schemes and it would set us back 3-4 years. Well please explain to me then how the Ravens, Falcons, Dolphins, they all have made the playoffs with 1st year coaches this year. So i don't see much for facts to back your theory sorry.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

How about all the Oaklands, and San Francisco's and Cleveland's out there who now wonder thru the NFL looking for a purpose and changing coaches every few years but getting nowhere.

I find it ironic that the teams you mention went from all having QB's that sucked to what, Comeback Player of the Year, and, the top two Rookies of the Year?

Everybody and their brother knew all Baltimore needed was a QB that could pass and not pass out and do you think it's the HC in Miami making a difference or maybe it's Pennington and the Tuna?

Yeah theres more teams than not that fail when they change their head coaches every other year or two. You can't just use Miami, Atlanta, and Baltimore as examples. All three of those teams mainly just needed a few personnel decisions and mainly the quarterback.

I was just giving examples of fast turnarounds don't jump on me but from what your saying the HC didn't make a difference it was all one player. Thats how i'm reading the responses i hope i'm taking it the right way.Mike Tomlin of the Steelers went to the playoffs in his 1st year with the steelers. Um if i remember right didn't Holmgren take the Seahawks to the playoffs his first year? But ya alot of coaches don't cut it but lately it seems like coaching changes do work.

Well, first of all before you can say this has "worked" you might want to give it more than one year. Everyone thought New Orleans had the golden ticket after one season and they haven't done squat since. Many thought Childress would be so great at Minny and some were upset they got to him before we could sign him. I'm glad they got him. I hope they keep him. Head to head McCarthy is twice the football coach and if nothing else this thread has proven there are not any names out there that could take this team any further and I am dang glad we have him.

Besides, everyone here knows that your big problem is with ANYONE associated with this team when they let your guy hit the road. They should all be tarred and feathered and bounced out of Green Bay and you won't be happy or more importantly a fan until every one of them is gone.

Which is fine with me. Just gives me more motivation to be even more loyal and supportive. In fact, I can't wait until next year when we come back and kick everybody's butt and they give McCarthy ANOTHER five year extension.

Which, by the way, is MUCH more likely than him getting fired.
