What do you conspiracy nuts think about this one?

Well.. it only makes sense.. why re-ink a coach when the GM isn't. If you go a different direction with the GM.. more often than not, the new GM wants his guy as a coach. Why extend the coach just in case it goes that route.

Just because Ted said NO I'M NOT READY TO RETIRE, doesn't mean he's not ready to retire.

Have you SEEN his press conferences?

We have no idea wtf's going on. Maybe Mike is looking at the Steelers' job.

I believe that was Ted's last draft for the Green Bay Packers. As we bantied about awhile ago, I think the Packers may be able to find a GM who is very comfortable employing MM as the HC.

If not, it'll be interesting...Aaron will get the Brett treatment and have a brand new HC in his 30's. Change is scary and exciting all at the same time. I'd be very interested to see who would be next as GM and HC. I just hope they don't make the same guy both.

Nerd was right... Murphy isn't going to be the one extending McCarthy...it'll be Ted, or the new GM.

Should be a fun next off-season.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

Structure ... hmmm I like that.

A recent report out of Green Bay suggested that Packers president Mark Murphy started talking about a long-term contract with coach Mike McCarthy. Before that happens, it sounds like general manager Ted Thompson will be taken care of.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport asked Murphy on Tuesday at the Spring League Meeting what would go into an extension for McCarthy.

"The way we're structured, football reports through Ted," Murphy said. "And then everything reports up through me, so the first step would be to extend Ted, then he would in turn enter in an extension for Mike."

Murphy said that extending McCarthy's contract would ultimately "be the general manager's decision." Murphy would not confirm that talks are underway, but it's not hard to read between the lines here.

Thompson's current contract runs out after the 2016 NFL Draft, with McCarthy's deal ending a few months earlier at the end of the 2015 season. Barring any snags, it looks like the Packers want to keep the Thompson-McCarthy pairing together for a while.

Thompson's deal should come first, and we'd expect McCarthy to get signed long term soon after that.
