That was my scouting report  on him.

I rated him higher than Richard Rodgers.

Def worth a look. If he gets a contract, any chance to make the roster or PS?

Oregon's Colt Lyerla, with help of Hillsboro Spartans family, overcomes childhood trials

But within the hulking, reluctant star still resides the anxiety of an often painful childhood he doesn't care to revisit. Dysfunctional home life. Little direction. Plenty of anger and frustration.

To those who know him well, it's a miracle he is attending college, let alone starring for the nation's No. 2 ranked team.

How Lyerla has made it this far is one aspect of his past he doesn't mind discussing. How through the help of coaches, teachers, counselors, administrators and parents of friends he overcame precarious pitfalls to stay in school, remain focused and live up to his potential.

The goal wasn't simply to get him to college but to provide him with the skills necessary to survive.

Hillsboro High turned out to be Lyerla's haven.

"I really just tried to stay focused and channel into sports," Lyerla says. "I spent all of my time at HilHi, really."

Says Ingram: "That's where he's at home, on the football field. When he could be there he was in his world."

If Driver were still on the team he would have been a huge asset to this young man.

If Donald isn't in the locker room with Lyeria it is a little more difficult to strike up a conversation with him. Driver certainly can call him on the phone but that is a lot different than having lunch together in the team dinning room or inviting him over to his home and playing Madden or Space Invaders or whatever they would do.

Texting once a week is not as strong of a tie as seeing each other every single day on the field.

Likewise with Jolly. Is he even in GB at this time? Do they have any plans to renew his contract?

Believe it or not kids being face to face is a better way to develop interpersonal relationships. It is a superior way to communicate. Phone calls, texts, emails and the like are a distance second at best.

The Green bay Packers have a player development program/staff. That is how you help troubled players. I believe Edgar Bennett was assigned this role very early in his career and he was assigned to mentor a troubled player. Obviously, that is the capacity I am talking about as it would be on a daily basis. I don't believe one has to shower naked with a grown man to grow a bond with them.

Harry Sydney has a foundation here called "My Brothers Keeper" and has helped an abundance of troubled boys and men.

The point I have clearly made is this. There are options for the kid, even in the small town of Green Bay, WI.

So if it's true that they cleaned out Jolly's locker, then can the team sign him to some kind of contract to look after this guy similar to what the Cowboys did with Dez Bryant? And maybe have Jolly be a assistant to Mike Trgovac? Like, teach guys how to swat down passes?

What I said was it would have been nice if Driver was able to be a role model to him as a member of the team.

Instead of having 3 or 4 options maybe it is the 5th option that would have worked best for him. It is one thing for an adviser to tell him to get his act together. It is another thing for someone who actually lived on the street and had a tough childhood to tell him he too can overcome his past.

Who knows as someone else suggested perhaps it would be Jolly that would work the best.

dfosterf (14h) : So eerily quiet here in Alexandria. I live in the flight path of commercial craft coming from the south and west, plus the military craft
dfosterf (14h) : So eeri
Mucky Tundra (17h) : Now that's a thought, maybe they're looking at the college ranks? Maybe not head coaches but DC/assistant DCs with league experience?
beast (19h) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (19h) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (19h) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
beast (22h) : I wonder what's taking so long with hiring a DL coach, 2 of the 3 known to interview have already been hired elsewhere.
Zero2Cool (27-Jan) : Packers coach Matt LaFleur hires Luke Getsy as senior assistant, extends Rich Bisaccia's deal
Zero2Cool (27-Jan) : Chiefs again huh? I guess another Super Bowl I'll be finding something else to do.

dfosterf (27-Jan) : Happy Birthday Dave!
Mucky Tundra (27-Jan) : happy birthday dhazer
TheKanataThrilla (26-Jan) : Exactly buck...Washington came up with the ball. It is just a shitty coincidence one week later
buckeyepackfan (26-Jan) : I forgot, they corrected the call a week later. Lol btw HAPPY BIRTHDAY dhazer!
buckeyepackfan (26-Jan) : That brings up the question, why wasn't Nixon down by contact? I think that was the point Kanata was making.
buckeyepackfan (26-Jan) : Turnovers rule, win the turnover battle, win the game.
packerfanoutwest (26-Jan) : well, he was
TheKanataThrilla (26-Jan) : Eagles down by contact on the fumble....fuck you NFL
Mucky Tundra (26-Jan) : I think this games over

Mucky Tundra (26-Jan) : This game looks too big for Washington
packerfanoutwest (26-Jan) : that being said, The Ravens are the Browns
packerfanoutwest (26-Jan) : Browns, Dolphins have longest AFC Championship droughts
packerfanoutwest (26-Jan) : As of today, Cowboys have longest NFC Championship drought,
beast (26-Jan) : Someone pointed out, with Raiders hiring Carroll, the division games between Carroll and Jim Harbaugh are back on (who can whine more games)
beast (26-Jan) : I'm confused, Pete Carroll and Brian Schottenheimer? When Todd Monken, Joe Brady, Kellen Moore, Kliff Kingsbury and Zac Robinson are availab
Zero2Cool (25-Jan) : Any reason I'm catching a shot here about my intelligence?
Martha Careful (25-Jan) : thank you Mucky for sticking up for me
Martha Careful (25-Jan) : some of those people are smarter than you zero. However Pete Carroll is not
Mucky Tundra (24-Jan) : Rude!
beast (24-Jan) : Martha? 😋
Zero2Cool (24-Jan) : Raiders hired someone from the elderly home.
dfosterf (24-Jan) : I'm going with a combination of the two.
beast (24-Jan) : Either the Cowboys have no idea what they're doing, or they're targeting their former OC, currently the Eagles OC
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
wpr (22-Jan) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
