I think the big thing uffda that I have taken some exception with is that there really isn't anything out there stating he is a head case or that he wasn't wanted by Nick Saban and Alabama, and that I believe it is a disservice to this person who is now one of our players to go off on some tangent like you have been regarding both items, when there is no factual base to them.

That's all.

You are entitled to your opinion, but, I think it isn't holding much water when all you have to point to are some off the cuff statements that you are possibly interpreting the wrong way. I have yet to see anything from you backing up your calling him a "problem child," nor that Alabama didn't want him to return for 2014.

If Saban didn't want Hubbard around he would have been dismissed from the team. That's not what happened. I went out of my way to try to find out what happened, and it turned out that he had great success as a sophomore at Alabama playing OLB. After Courtney Upshaw left via the draft, he was supposed to take over for him, but Saban had him playing multiple positions instead, as many as 6 different positions. Of course, he didn't realize the same success he had as a sophomore playing OLB exclusively, and so after his junior year 2013 he declared for the draft, and Saban has really had nothing but good things to say about him, and likewise, Hubbard has shown great respect in his comments regarding Saban.

Medically, players are taken off draft boards all the time for one thing or another, especially a suspected congenital heart defect. Turns out he doesn't have an enlarged heart, but rather that his heart is big because he is big.

Other teams passed on him. Green Bay was able to sign him as a UDFA. I am glad they did.

I just don't see the point it trying to tear down one of our own, when there really is no factual base for it. That's where I am coming from. Yeah, I got a little pissed, and I apologize if I said anything that you might have taken exception to. I just don't see any positives in continuing on this rant you've been on when there isn't much to corroborate it as being anything of substance.

This player could prove to be an epic steal in UDFA for the Packers. I'm thrilled to have him in Green Bay, playing with Matthews and Peppers. In October, he was rated the #33rd player overall in the draft. Huge.

The guy is an UDFA. If he makes it awesome. If not so what?
It's not like Ted Thompson wasted a pick here.

The bottom line is Ted usually signs one or two of these players that turns out to be good football players and from everything I see Hubbard has as good of a chance at being one of those as anybody.

Thompson and his staff probably pay as much attention to character and give consideration to the kind of person these players are as any staff in the NFL.

If nothing else Hubbard looks like he could be a ST leader and if they get that from him it would be super.

Its going to be scary to think what our front 7 will do this year if guys like this turn out to be a great find.

Peppers, CM3, Neal, this guy ...

Geez ... agree thou - we need decent ILBs and not even sure what our Dline will be looking like.

Going to be a fun year folks!

P2w, You are being ostrich like in your repeated insistence that there is nothing to talk about in reference to potential character issues with this guy.

Here is the Walter blurb: ***WalterFootball.com heard from sources that Alabama didn't make much a pitch for him to comeback. *** That wouldn't have a thing to do with his enlarged heart.

Here's Nawrocki:

Has a quirky personality, inflated opinion of his ability and carries a sense of entitlement that could be difficult to manage and require a patient positional coach.

---You don't read that kind of damning statement on many prospects. You choose to believe that it's inaccurate. I take Walter and Nawrocki and the fact he wasn't drafted at all and logically conclude there's a very good chance there's something off about this guy mentally.

You trust Ted? What does that even mean? Ted didn't draft the guy...he added him as a UDFA. He didn't feel confident enough using a pick on him...Why? Are you going to claim it was his heart? If that's the case why would Ted add him at all? I believe the guy has some issues relating to his character and now that no draft pick has to be used, there's no harm in bringing him up to see if we can coach him. For you to continually insist that there's no basis for my statements is bizarre.

Alas, I want what you want... him to be a great find and difference maker for this team. I just hope his head doesn't get in the way of that and there are valid reasons for me to state it.

Alabama not making a pitch for him to come back after Hubbard informed Saban of his intentions means very little. What's Saban supposed to do? It certainly doesn't translate in any way into what you stated:

...then why didn't they want him back at Bama? Sounds like they were happy to see him go.

Fact: No one from Alabama stated that they didn't want Hubbard back.

Add to that, I don't equate "quirky personality" "inflated opinion of himself" and "sense of entitlement" with "problem child" and "head case" - your words.

So, these other athletes on our team, none of them have any of those attributes? Really? Freaking A man!!!! Nearly all student athletes coming out of these major programs have some or all of those very same traits to varying degrees.

Whether Alabama wants him back or not is not a big deal. He is an UDFA. It doesn't matter what any magazine or website thinks of him. Uncle Teddy and Mike will get him into camp and see if THEY like him or not. He costs them nothing other than a little bit of a signing bonus. They didn't even waste a 7th round draft pick on him. Woodson had a bit of a problem when he came in. Mike and he worked it out. Granted Woodson was a little older and more mature but if the kid doesn't tow the line he is gone. If he can play by the Packers rules and is productive he will say. Nothing else matters.

You must not read my posts at all... One of the main reasons this is concerning to me is most college athletes have some of these attributes...the fact Nawrocki wrote about them on Hubbard tends to make me believe they're well beyond the norm. If Hubbard doesn't make it, I'm going to guess we're going to hear about just how out there he was.

I'm hoping we don't hear that and he makes it but I have my doubts about him. Knowing you as I already do, you've probably got him penciled in as better than Lawrence Taylor. 🙂

Hey p2w... Read this story on Bama's QB and his draft fall and you just might start believing Hubbard has character issues:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000350354/article/bengals-aj-mccarron-says-predraft-reports-hurt

Reports surfaced Saturday that teams were left with questions about McCarron's personality during his one-on-one visits. His decision to blow off the Senior Bowl didn't sit well, and some club executives were left to ask if the Crimson Tide quarterback was liked by his teammates and would thrive under pressure at the NFL level.

---More stuff at link. AJ knows his perceived personality cost him big time. At least he didn't try blaming his fall on a medical paper. 🙂
