Up in the shout box, I was wondering why any FA RB would choose to come to Green Bay with all the guys we have. Heck, I thought Starks was a goner, but after reading what's below, it makes sense why they kept Starks and are inviting more guys up for rookie camp. I hope that isn't the end for Franklin. First, he seems like such a good guy, and secondly, he showed such promise vs. Cincy. If true, he can get to work on his dream being Mayor of Los Angeles... (bTW, I think that Perkins kid has a shot. Loves football and has some juice like Harris. He can catch and run it...shoot, he looked like a WR in some of the clips I saw of him)

The Packers remain tight-lipped about the status of running back Johnathan Franklin, their fourth-round pick in 2013 from UCLA. Franklin had a breakout game against Cincinnati with 103 yards on 13 carries, but he suffered a neck injury late in the year and was put on injured reserve.

Coach Mike McCarthy was evasive when asked about Franklin at the NFL owners meetings in March and there has been no word how much Franklin is doing in the off-season conditioning program.

The Packers hosted a number of smaller backs similar to Franklin on pre-draft visits and signed three free agents after the draft was over. Perkins is one and the other two are Tennessee's Rajion Neal and Kansas' James Sims.

Neal, a 5-11, 220-pounder who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.58 and had a 38-inch vertical jump, is bigger than Franklin (5-10, 205) and doesn't run as fast (4.46), but both are quick change-of-direction backs.

The 5-10, 207-pound Sims is almost identical in size to Franklin and had back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons for the Jayhawks.

It's possible that Franklin's injury isn't serious and he'll be ready for the start of training camp, but adding three backs certainly raises some questions. In addition to Franklin, the running back position includes Lacy, James Starks, DuJuan Harris, Michael Hill and John Kuhn.

I don't feel bringing in rbs now necessarily signifies anything, Ted has shown a willingness to kick the tires on just about any street free agents at any time.

The tight lips concern me however, much like they do with Finley comments (even this weekend).

That's a bummer uffda. I was really looking forward to seeing what he could do with Lacy, and this just isn't sounding too good. Hope for the best with him.

uffda udfa, I found this same article on our "news" link in the upper left corner. 😉

If they butcher this dude like they did Collins, I might not even follow this team anymore.

Wow, I have to say when it comes to injuries the Packers sure get an absolute insane number of career ending and season long ending injuries ALONG with a ton out at least 6 weeks.

Collins, maybe Jolly if he can't come back, Finley the same, now Franklin, and, that WR Murphy, a 2nd round pick that looked like he was a player.

All good football players too. Gesh. How many teams lose this many guys FOREVER. I know the verdict is still out on a few but it's still a butt load of serious injuries.

dfosterf (26-Jun) : I think it would be great to have someone like Tom Grossi or Andy Herman on the Board of Directors so he/they could inform us
dfosterf (26-Jun) : Fair enough, WPR. Thing is, I have been a long time advocate to at least have some inkling of the dynamics within the board.
wpr (26-Jun) : 1st world owners/stockholders problems dfosterf.
Martha Careful (25-Jun) : I would have otherwise admirably served
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Also, no more provision for a write-in candidate, so Martha is off the table at least for this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : You do have to interpret the boring fine print, but all stockholders all see he is on the ballot
dfosterf (25-Jun) : It also says he is subject to another ballot in 2028. I recall nothing of this nature with Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy is on my ballot subject to me penciling him in as a no.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : I thought it used to be we voted for the whatever they called the 45, and then they voted for the seven, and then they voted for Mark Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Because I was too lazy to change my address, I haven't voted fot years until this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
Zero2Cool (25-Jun) : Maybe wicked wind chill made it worse?
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : And then he signs with Cleveland in the offseason
