I think this is the only "weird" pick to me. I can understand why the rest were drafted. As long as this guy can be decent, then it will all work out. Even if he can just be a decent number two tight end. Every pick can't be a great one, and they never are. For any team.

I don't see why they're knocking him for not having the bulk to be an inline blocker, if they also say "he's proven he can adjust his weight to his teams' needs." Wtf man.

Still, seems like a bit of a project. David Martin 2.0? Or should I say Donald Lee 3.0?

The good thing is that he's a "pass catching" style TE can get down the seam. Now if only he can actually play. Ted got stymied when the two TEs were taken right in front of him in the 2nd, so he took the WR there. This guy was his fallback at TE.

TE Metrics - Out of the Box

Looking at this, he was the best TE available and I can't argue them making this pick here. Best YAC of any of the TEs drafted.

BAL immediately selected the TE Gilmore, a far lesser TE, right after our Rodgers pick.

I felt exactly the same way about both of the picks that bracketed this one, 85 Thornton and 161 Linsey. I'm thinking I may be proven wrong in all 3 cases. Though, I don't think there can be a doubt these did have a lean towards need.

There is one thing for sure- I will quickly get sick of hearing how his dad had two laterals in "The Play" back in 82 in the Cal- Stanford game.

Don't get me wrong, I love the play but the talking heads will drag that factoid out every time GB has a national game and Rodgers-Rodgers combo has a big play. It may take 2-3-4 years for them to get tired of giving us that little gem.

It seems to me like pretty much every single TE went a bit earlier than they were expected to pre-draft.

before our Rodgers pick at 98. All except 1 were gone by R2. I'll say they went quick. Makes me think Ted had a pretty solid board, because he had to have been freaking out a bit on that. Made a really solid choice IMO with Rodgers at 98. (I say that now, after catching up on him, as in the moment I was not a fan of that pick).

One of these sets of numbers belongs to Jermichael Finley and the other to Richard Rodgers.

Let's consider the hands.

Richard Rodgers' last full season at Cal drop % = 7.69 (2013)

Jermichael Finley's last full season at GB drop % = 20.0 (2012) [17.91% (2011)]

That is pretty significant, as an upgrade with Richard Rodgers in GB.
