Bart Starr and his wife, Cherry, were in western Wisconsin last month to speak at Boy Scout fundraiser dinners. Starr, who turned 80 years old in January, reflected on his Pro Football Hall of Fame career and life with Packer Plus.

I don't know if that would have happened,

but The front office did him no favor by pulling off the now infamous "John Hadle trade", which pretty much handcuffed Bart for the 1st 3 years in the draft.

There was no Free Agency back then, so Bart had to live with no 1st rnd picks for 2 years and 2nd rnd picks I think for 3 years.

He did what he could.

Such a remarkably humble man for someone who accomplished so much. Legend.

We can disagree whether he's the greatest Packer quarterback ever. (He was, I'm right, and anyone who disagrees with me as wrong.)

And he certainly was hired as head coach way before he was ready.

But his inherent greatness, his inherent goodness, that is unquestioned.

Even given his advanced age, I'd vote for him for President in a heartbeat.

I've seen a number of famous and "important" people in my life. But none of them stands out in my mind like Bart Starr does. As long as I live I'll never forget the time I walked with Starr as he accompanied a young man in a wheelchair behind the stands at what was then Memorial Stadium at the U of Minnesota after a game in which he got battered and bruised by Eller and company.

Never.

That day, and in his life, he showed himself not just a football player with Hall of Fame credentials. He showed himself a man. And not just a man, but a man of unimpeachable character. A man of rightness.

Amongst the noisy who proclaim their leadership skills at every turn, there are those quiet mean and women who are true leaders. Bart Starr is such a man.

There are giants among us worthy of extra respect and attention. Bart Starr is one of them.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Mucky Tundra (7h) : Now that's a thought, maybe they're looking at the college ranks? Maybe not head coaches but DC/assistant DCs with league experience?
beast (8h) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (8h) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (8h) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
beast (11h) : I wonder what's taking so long with hiring a DL coach, 2 of the 3 known to interview have already been hired elsewhere.
Zero2Cool (27-Jan) : Packers coach Matt LaFleur hires Luke Getsy as senior assistant, extends Rich Bisaccia's deal
