GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Shortly before free agency opened, the Green Bay Packers had the sixth-most salary-cap space in the NFL.

Since then, they have re-signed cornerback Sam Shields, defensive tackle B.J. Raji, outside linebacker/defensive end Mike Neal, tight end Andrew Quarless, tendered restricted free-agent linebacker Jamari Lattimore and added free-agent defensive linemen Julius Peppers and Letroy Guion.

They began the month with nearly $34.2 million in cap space and even after all that activity, they still have about half of that remaining.

as for your question of who. There is not a lot out there so a 1 yr deal with Chris Clemons would be better than what they now have.

Clemons is a true center-field safety and would complement in-the-box type SS Dawan Landry. Clemons is an excellent cover guy, though he's a bit shaky in run support and hasn't been a playmaker. The Dolphins are not expected to re-sign him. Mar 9 - 5:49 PM

I am intrigued by Sean Richardson being fully healthy this offseason and also intrigued at the prospect of moving Micah Hyde to safety. Neither of which I would put all my chips in a hat and say "safety is solved!".

I am just intrigued at the tools they possess.

I think the first pick will probably be a safety and that first pick will be in the second round.

Good to still have money to spend. Ted has done some good bringing back players we need to at minimum maintain and adding a couple which will improve the depth chart more from the top, than improving the bottom of it. A FS would be nice to bring in for competition but I still like the prospect of Richardson to play the back end. He is taller and faster than Hyde. S is a tough position to fill I remember it took both Collins and Sharper each a few years to really get the hang of it.

Another true NT to compete with Raji like Terrance Cody.

If not, we can always use some of this space to take care of Nelson or Cobb a year early making next years offseason a little easier.

But yeah. Thank you Ted for managing the cap. We've signed our top FAs and we're still in great shape. In Ted we trust.

This is way off the wall, and I have said myself we don't need a wide receiver. However, I read the Eagles would trade DeSean Jackson cheap - asking a third round pick, but maybe accepting even less. He would make about $10 million, but he is a damn good player, and apparently we could afford him. I very much doubt it will happen, though.

dfosterf (26-Jun) : I think it would be great to have someone like Tom Grossi or Andy Herman on the Board of Directors so he/they could inform us
dfosterf (26-Jun) : Fair enough, WPR. Thing is, I have been a long time advocate to at least have some inkling of the dynamics within the board.

Martha Careful (25-Jun) : I would have otherwise admirably served
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Also, no more provision for a write-in candidate, so Martha is off the table at least for this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : You do have to interpret the boring fine print, but all stockholders all see he is on the ballot
dfosterf (25-Jun) : It also says he is subject to another ballot in 2028. I recall nothing of this nature with Murphy

dfosterf (25-Jun) : I thought it used to be we voted for the whatever they called the 45, and then they voted for the seven, and then they voted for Mark Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Because I was too lazy to change my address, I haven't voted fot years until this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
